I want to know how you personally define a hypocrite. Examples of hypocritical behavior, or what you have done (outside of Y!A) to be called a hypocrite.

I see this word so often in R&S that it has begun to lose it's meaning for me. I'd like to know what you think.

A hypocrite, quite simply, does not "walk the talk".

Example:

Hypocrite: "I am a Christian and I think all {muslims, LDS, Buddhist, etc.} are lost, hell-bound and sin-bent."

Hypocrite: "I am a non-believer and anyone who believes in God is ignoring the obvious."

Both are examples of saying one thing, yet not fully modeling the beliefs they espouse.

A hypocrite is someone whose actions and words conflict. An example from real life... a mother told the judge that she loved her children, yet her actions were to starve the children to the point where one died. She's a hypocrite. The most common hypocrites on Y!A seem to be those who preach how tolerant and "open minded" they are yet when you read their answers they demonstrate intolerance and hatred towards others.

A hypocrite (in the noun form) is someone who says one thing and acts or does the opposite.

ie.
My ex-husband is a born again Christian, when we first split it was not amicable. He used to go on and on about how important it was for our son to be around Christian people and church etc etc. I started attending a Christian church being raised Catholic I wanted to experience it and find out what my Son was being taught when he was at his Dad's house. I really enjoyed the sermon and started attending more and more. I found out about a weekend group they had for children, they would take trips and do activities, stuff like that. When I mentioned the program to my ex he said "Oh no he already attends church on Wed, Fri, and Sun
that would just be too much Church for him"

HUH?!? yeah well...that's a selfish hypocrite.

ill just give you an example of a hypocrite:

A lady went to church. Knelt, closed his eyes, raised his hands, prayed and even cried. Then she rose to go home. On her way home she saw a beggar, the beggar seemed to be so hungry and is asking for a piece of bread. Instead of giving a bread of telling the beggar politely that she can't give, The religious lady slapped the beggar and kicked him and shouted at him telling him to go away...

a hypocrite is someone you thought is good but is really bad..

Hyprocrisy in specifics: A minister preaches from the pulpit that God condemns adultery while carrying on affair with a woman not his wife.

A person who, while claiming to be a follower of Christ either does decidedly unchristian things, such as what I mentioned above or fails to do something Christ's teachings require.

Hypocricy, btw, is different from human failings. A "christian" might commit adultery in a moment of weakness (although that might have been avoidable to begin with) but that is far different from what Jesus said about "PRACTICING sin" willfully.

A hypocrite is a person who stands by and ideal or thought but displays actions and words that are the opposite of what he or she promote. Example: A man who is against male homosexuality yet enjoys watching two women engage in homosexual behavior. Example two: someone who harbors racist and fascist ideals yet embraces parts of the cultures he or she is against like rap music.

A hypocrite is something people hide behind.

Like when someone says they don't go to church because the church is filled with hypocrites. The only thing that would happen if they did go is there would be one more hypocrite in the church.

Creed of the hypocrites: "Do as I say not as I do"
Hypocritical behavior ex.: Christian fundie:
"The bible is 100% true and the word of God!"

Pagan: "What about the part about stoning your neighbor for working on the Sabbat?"

Christian fundie: "Oh, that doesn't apply anymore, that's old testament stuff."

Christian fundie: "Now DIE, WITCH!!!!!" (Exodus 22:18 "Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live." Old testament)

A hypocrite are the people who send me an email quoting scripture then curse me out and/or insult me right after that. But they always end with a nice "God Bless You".

Gives you the warm fuzzies, doesn't it?

A hypocrite is a person who speaks against something while doing it. The Great Hypocrisy -- Christians who claim to be persecuted and then spend a lot of time trying to force others to be Christian.
