Medical retirement means that you are disabled, in some way necessitating you to retire. Regular retirement is your choice to retire after an x number of years in the military .

If you have 20 years service take regular retirement. Medical is a percentage of full retirement based on your disability. If you are 50% disabled you get 50% of what your retirement would have been. Then you would apply for a VA disabilty and get whichever is higher.

There is no Army Medical Retirement. The military does not allow you to stay in until you drop. There is a retirement but it deals more with not reenlisting. Some men have led commands and been in for 50 years. It depends on your health and your options.
You can however be Chaptered out of the military for medical reasons. If you have a health issue that hinders your performance or causes others to be affected you will be Chaptered. You will also more than likely get a General Under Honorable Conditions Discharge.Others are General.. Honorable..or Dishonorable. Depends on your circumstances.
