The list is huge... to do it real justice do a Google on "depression symptoms".... Most of the signs that we can observe have to do with changes in behavior... something that is now different than it used to be. In my patients, I look for a person not enjoying the things they used to enjoy, be it a hobby, a sport, or even a spouse. Constant fatigue, poor or inadequate sleep, weight loss or gain, flat dull facial expressions and decreases in personal hygiene are all good candidates. A person who becomes emotionally upset more easily than in the past may be depressed. Depression can manifest with physical problems like unexplainable stomach problems, chest or back pains (not as common), or a general "sick" feeling (kind of like the body aches of the flu).

These changes are not always obvious. A few years back I started taking a drug for sleep that also happened to be an anti-depressant. A few weeks later, I noticed I seemed happier, but I hadn't even realized I wasn't my usual self. My family noticed it too, and I continue to use the med to this day. Most depression is *very* treatable. If it is you or someone you love showing these signs, consult a doctor or psychologist soonest! Best of luck! Ed, RN (Psych)

Hi,

Constant tiredness. Negative thoughts about almost anything. Normal thought processes don't work the same. For instance, you know you need to go out and enjoy yourself a bit but the effort to actually do so, seems like too much effort.

Another sign would be moodiness.....you might feel as though nothing can lift your mood, check on that. Depression nowadays is a common thing but should not be left untreated. See a good Homeopath and they would be able to tell you if you need to see a Psychologist.
