I have two MS Office Prof. programs, both legitimate programs and very expensive. One is Office 97, the other 2003. The 2003 software will only allow me to install it on two computers (one desktop and one laptop), but I have 6; 4 desktops and 2 laptops. (home, family and school). Office 97 will allow me to install it on all of my personal computers. I made the mistake of installing 2003 on a 3rd and 4th computer (actually my college student children did on their own) and now face buying additional licenses. I paid enough for the program am not going to pay more money for the 2 additional licenses.

Is there a way to downgrade back to office 97 without loosing my files? or do I have to delete the office suite and reload 97, then convert the files back to 97 files?

Thanks for any (useful) input.

Office 2003 and Office XP both use a licensing option that requires online "activation", and you can only use each license on one PC. One license for each. If you have only 2 licenses and more than 2 PCs, you much purchase separate licenses for each PC. The software will not work until you unlock it at the Microsoft website, thanks to Bill's great efforts to restrict the use of his software. If you wish, purchase a 5-pack license for Office 2003/xp and you will receive 5 new license codes to use on 5 other PCs.

If you don't like that answer, find copies of Office 2000, which did not have this restriction. But, it is only legal to load a version of software on one PC per license. If you load one license on more than one PC, you are breaking the law.

Well, you can use other free Office suite software on your these two computers. Here I strongly recommend WPS Office 2014 Beta version to you. I have been using this software for a year and it works really well. This is the download link: http://www.wps.com/download/2714 You can have a try.

Get OpenOffice. It's compatible with MS and other office suites.
