If he is going every day and not having pain or crying, then he is probably not constipated. If he is constipated take him in to have it checked out. Usually a combination of dietary changes and short term lubricant (mineral oil) or laxatives will fix the constipation.

Sometimes other things going on in your lives (move, day care, changes in home) can cause a child to "backslide" on using the potty and this problem will most likely resolve itself.

Make sure that his feet can touch the floor or a hard surface (like a sturdy box or stepstool) when he is on the toilet to make sure he is not afraid of falling in and can "push" properly. Get some small inexpensive items like stickers or small toys and keep them in a special box. When he poops on the potty, let him pick a special prize from the box and lavishly praise him. Call Grandma just to tell her that Kaje pooped on the potty. Let him pick out some cool big boy underwear to wear as long as he promises not to poop in them.

Above all, try to make it positive rather than negative experience for him. Good luck!!

My son did the same thing. He is 2 1/2. About 4 months ago, he started going to the potty every time he had to go. I praised him and was so proud of him and then all of a sudden he just stopped. He goes to the bathroom in his pants as well. I don't pressure him though, that is the worst thing to do. I just give him a little encouragement here and there. I know when he's ready, he will go. I wouldn't worry too much, how many kids do you see that never get potty trained? None. All the boys at his daycare still go in their pants, all the girls are trained! Isn't that funny? When it's their time, they will go! hope this helps!!

Did you have another child recently sometimes they will regress. My son did that, I made a potty chart every time he told me he had to potty, and went in the potty he would get a sticker for his chart. He loves stickers, and it worked for me.

Oh Brianna I thought I was the only one. My daughter emily does the same thing!! We took her to a gastrointestinal specialist and he said it is constapation and the FEAR of going. My little girl will hold it in until it is so backed up that is comes out in little bits and then finally WHAM. I look and think, holy crap that came out of YOU. I don't mean to be crude or gross you out. My daughter actually is scared of it. The doctor says its not uncommon for kids to have that behavior. My mother told me the same thing as well. So we have given her over the counter laxatives and encourage and reward her for going. It has been almost a year since the behavior started and she has shown much improvement. Hope this helps.

this can happen if your son is having painful bowel movements. increase the fiber in his diet.
is he able to tell you why he isn't ready for the potty? he may regress because he wants to continuing being your baby.
you can have him checked by a doctor for a medical cause.
