If not, then why do they offer wine at the Catholic churches?

Yes, it's OK to drink like a fish. Don't let some wimp talk you out of it.

...That is between you and the Lord. I cannot speak for the Catholic Church, but if left up to me, I would not serve any alcohol in church, in case a recovering drunkard was there - I wouldn't want to do anything to start one drinking to excess again.
...The Bible warns those who get drunk that they are not wise, and that is harmful and foolish. Drinking to excess has put many in an early grave and/or rendered them useless for much good. We are reminded often about tragedies that result from drunk drivers involved traffic accidents.
...I cannot find any verse in the Bible that commands total abstinence from alcohol, so I believe in small amounts it could be a used as a beverage or be used for medicinal reasons. As a diabetic it is unwise for me to drink, so very, very seldom I might have a beer.
...One could never go wrong totally abstaining from alcohol, if to please the Lord. If one totally abstains from alcohol, then there would be no questions about alcohol use at all.
...I will not sponsor alcohol parties in my house, because of all the foolishness that accompanies them, and my friends don't drink any or hardly at all anyway.

...Here are some verses:
...Proverbs 23:29-35
...29 Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has contentions? Who has complaining? Who has wounds without cause? Who has redness of eyes?
...30 Those who linger long over wine, those who go to taste mixed wine.
...31 Do not look on the wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly;
...32 At the last it bites like a serpent and stings like a viper.
...33 Your eyes will see strange things and your mind will utter perverse things.
...34 And you will be like one who lies down in the middle of the sea, or like one who lies down on the top of a mast.
...35 "They struck me, but I did not become ill; they beat me, but I did not know it . When shall I awake?
I will (seek another drink."

...1 Timothy 5:23 No longer drink water exclusively, but use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent ailments.
************************************************************
...Proverbs 20:1 - Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, and whoever is intoxicated by it is not wise.

.…Romans 14:16-17 -
…16 Therefore do not let what is for you a good thing be spoken of as evil;
…17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

That offer of wine is symbolic.. it is a small sip, not hardly the same as getting drunk. You are the only one who can decide if it is OK for you to drink. In my estimation drinking causes problems I don't care to deal with.

Unless you are pregnant or on drugs that preclude alcohol, yes, after all, Jesus turned water into wine, and all the prophets drank occasionally.

Sure it is.
I enjoy my Tequila.
Just don't do it until you are out of control.
I enjoy a few drinks here and there but never let it take control or nor do I let myself lose control.

Been there done that. It hurts too much.

For most people, drinking alcohol is not a sin. It is the 'abuse' of alcohol that is generally the problem. (There are those that should avoid alcohol for various reasons).
