I'm equally curious about your point of view. As a citizen of a country that has attacked Israel multiple times, and I assume as a supporter of the various palestinian "liberation" movements, what is your take on the terrorist attacks against Israel? Are Israeli lives cheap in your eyes?
I personally do not think that their (Palestinian) lives are cheap, I do know there are (in my mind neccessary) killings and destruction in what is referred to as palestine (a tad eroneously). At the same time I don't believe in the supposed genocide, as both practically and philosophically impossible. First of all, "Palestinian" is not a race or genus, so if we're talking genocide then Israel is supposedly wiping out Arabs, despite having a million with citizenship. If Israel really is wiping out the Arabs, it's doing an awfully poor job, in that there are millions of them and their numbers are rising in areas under Israeli control. Not exactly a genocide, eh? I do not think the media hides anything, as there are very liberal publications that would love nothing more than an expose into war-crimes and indiscriminate murder. I further do believe that anything Israel does do is embellished and exagerated in the arab press, and much of the atrocities are wholly fabricated. The recent excavations/repair at the temple mount is the perfect example. Anyone who knows the area knows that the ramp and reconstruction are nowhere near the mosques and in no way support the structures on which they rely and are of no consequence. Yet the arab press is sure that this is a blatant attempt to destroy them. I believe that at the end of the day, the Palestinians have had the chance to dig themselves out of whatever hole they were in; they have received enough money from everyone to build a stable economy; they have received enough weapons to build a stable police force capable (if they wanted) to reign in terror. And most of all, they received a vote. All the palestinians had to do, literally, was to elect Fatah, or any party that did not espouse the destruction of Israel. That's it. They received Gaza for nothing, and Israel even elected a party whose major point was to evacuate most of the Judea and Samaria (West Bank) area. All that had to happen was for the Palestinian people to elect a government that would say that they are for peace. And they didn't. As a result, the money dried up, the peace offers ended and we have gone nowhere. The Israeli public voted for peace; the Palestinian public did not. Lastly, I believe that the IDF (Israel Defense Force) is a moral army, and I believe that what they do is just and within reason. I believe they do not kill or destroy more than they have to, and I feel they deserve international respect and not scorn.

I actually think we get a clearer perspective of what's going on in the Palestinian territories than you do in Egypt. In Israel, we have independent media that represents a wide-range of viewpoints, from the right-wing Jerusalem Post to the left-wing Ha'aretz. A testament to this fact is that government corruption/misdeeds are quickly and vocally reported in the media.
I disagree with some things that are going on between Israelis and Palestinians, such as the settlements. I do not believe that they serve any strategic value to Israel (and in fact, put a great strain on many resources) or that they are good for the Palestinian people. However, after Israel withdrew from its Gaza settlements, we saw what the Palestinians did: they used the former settlements as launching grounds for Qassam attacks into Israel.
I think that the situation between Israel and the Palestinians is not a simple black and white conflict. Many times when Israel has to act, it is forced to act in a way, that under normal circumstances, would be wrong (if not evil), but within the context of the conflict, are the least bad of several worse options.
Just a few things to consider:
-the Palestinians democratically elected into government a Hamas organization that steadfastedly calls for Israel's destruction (hardly, an organization that is ammenable to peace, no?)
-Israel withdrew from Lebanon, the Sinai and Gaza- and while the Palestinians in Gaza might still have some reason to complain, Israel's action shows that it is seriously willing to give up possession of land for the sake of peace
-regardless of whether or not you believe that the Jewish people have a right to live WITHIN what is the land of Israel (notice that I was explicit in not saying all of the land of Israel, Gaza, and the West Bank), neither 5.5 million Jews nor 5.5 million Palestinians can be forced out of the land; the past is the past- both sides have suffered- and it's time to move on
-remember that in the West Bank and Gaza, the Palestinians have among the highest population growth rates in the world; if Israel were committing 'genocide' (or comparable atrocities in the Territories), as some Middle Eastern media outlets claim, then it wouldn't make sense for the Palestinians to have one of the highest population growth rates in the world
-if Israel did kick out the Palestinians in 1948, as the Palestinians claim, then why are there now over 1 million Palestinian Israeli citizens? doesn't it seem inconsistent for a country to, on the one hand, engage in what amounts to ethnic cleansing, while on the other hand, allowing 1 million+ Palestinians to remain inside Israel proper as citizens?
I am not trying to trivialize the Palestinians' grievances, some of which I find reasonable, but when they say that they are fighting for their homes, their land, their dignity, and so on, just remember that we, Israeli Jews, are with our backs against the wall. We have not been fighting for the sake of fighting or for some material property, we have been fighting for SURVIVAL. We have been fighting for EVERYTHING, not for objects and material items.
Just some food for thought.
Anyhow, my hope (and the hope of most other Israelis I know) is that oneday we can let bygones be bygones and have a Palestinian state and a Jewish state living side by side in peace.

I am in the USA and so not really involved in this. However it occurs to me, that the discord between the Palestinians and the Israelis has been going on for over 2,000 years.
Not a good basis for peace, unless all people on both sides decide that they want it. And that, unfortunately, is not very likely to happen, taking in account human stupidity and stubbornness.

6 years of Intifada and Collective Punishment have passed where 6000 innocent Palestinian civilians were killed and 70.000 were wounded and 12000 became disable and handicapped and 2000 innocent Israelis got killed and more than 15000 were wounded and more than 1000 Israelis became disabled handicapped. Israel is conducting a Collective Punishment against Palestinian civilians for the last 6 years. Israel is violating every item in the 4 Geneva Convention.
Killing of civilians as result of launching missals or heavy gunfire from tanks or airplanes most Civilians were killed this way and the # is more than 3500 and most of them were living next to an Israeli suspected target or passing by. 1000 of the 6000 civilians killed were children less than 15 years old and 500 female most were killed in their houses late at night. The policy of assassination where more than 350 Palestinians were killed without court order and most were politically active. According to the Israelis you’re guilty till they kill you.The Israeli have jailed more than 8000 native Palestinians without court order they were jailed simply because they are nationalists and most were detained without any charges. There are 200 young women in Israeli political concentration jails. There are 350 Palestinian kids in Israeli political concentration Jails.
Intentional killing of Medical staff members and prevention of reaching wounded civilians the IDF let wounded bleed to death in many well-known cases to the international press.
The Israeli army committed bank robbery for security reasons where the army took money belongs to welfare non- government organization. The deportation of the Palestinians outs of their country to live in exile the rest of his or her live.
The Racist Wall is consuming more than 58% of the Palestinian Land the two state solution is dead. The Racist Wall which Israel is building as we speak is not built on the Israeli 1967 borders but rather on confiscated Palestinian land. The Racist Israeli Wall has prevented the Palestinian Civilians from going to their schools, Universities, Farms and place of work. As a result of the Israeli Racist Wall each Palestinian City is a large jail.
The destruction policy of Palestinian infrastructure like Police Stations, roads, hospitals, schools, water and electricity supply and bridges to disconnect cities and small towns from each other.
House demolishing policy where the Israeli Army destroyed more than 30000 houses for security reasons according to the IDF most of these houses were destroyed because the houses are near Israeli settlements or a new IDF post or member of the family is wanted by the IDF.That is what the world call collective punishment and the Israeli leaders say self-defense

David H, Israel want to keep occupying land that was never part of Israel that is the issue. If Israel will end its occupation from all that land which was never part of Israel , Israel will have lasting peace. Its up to the Israelis not the Palestinians.

I know this has been said before but here goes. "If the Palestinians lay down their arms, the fighting will be finished. If Israel lays down its arms, Israel will be finished". True or false?
