Ask a few people you know that take good pictures if they would photograph the ceremony, if you buy the film or discs. between all of them, you should get plenty of good shots for the album. Buy top quality films and pick people who have good cameras. Shots can be cropped and edited later for that professional look.
For the reception, buy lots of good quality disposable cameras and put them out on the tables. Get Kodak or Fuji ones with flash and tele. The ones that say wedding cameras on them are usually no better. They just cost more. For the speeches and 1st dance and such, You might want to have some of your volunteers from the service to cover this, just in case.
With all this, and a bit of editing and creativity, you can create a massive wedding of professional quality album for a nominal cost.
Good luck :-)

First get pricing on professional photography and video CD for your wedding. Then knowing their prices, ask around and see if there are any people in your town that do photography as a side line and would be available to do your wedding. Or another idea would be to go to your local college and speak with someone there and ask if there are any college students who are interested in photography. If they have some referrals for you, then contact them and ask them if they would be interested in doing your wedding. I am quite sure that they would be much cheaper than a professional photographer. Check it out.

Any digital camera will work the important thing to remember is make sure the red eye feature is on and that the light is right. Review the photos make sure you like them before proceeding and down load into a memory stick as you go.
I could have taken much better pictures at my wedding then I paid for. Also there are cheap computer photo programs so you can manipulate the photos later

There are a lot of pros out there that charge various rates ... if you want to go with a pro, take a look at www.pictage.com as a lot of them use that site to post their albums from events they've done. You can take a look at their portfolios and/or websites.
If you're looking for something a little less formal, try going to a local university and asking a student ... high school students would also be great choices. Anyone who loves something so much, such as photography, that they takes classes for it is a great choice in my book!!! They are always willing to do what they love for a little extra playing money, so why not give them the chance to build their portfolios??

I agree get a good digital camera. I have a kodak easy share 6.0 megapixel and I just took photos at my friends wedding and they came out beautiful. Spend $300 on a camera you get to keep and take on honeymoon or spend over a $1000 just for the photographer and then still have to pay for prints for everyone.

Go to a local photography school or art school with a photography program. Maybe they can recommend one of their students who does good work and would be willing to do the work for cheap since they want to get name recognition. They may also be able to have students that are willing to do the work for free since they may need to do a project for their thesis or for their graduation requirements.

When my wife and I got married we hired an expesive photographer, but my wife's uncle also took pictures with a good quality digital camera and the ones he took looked better than the photographer's. If it were me, I'd get someone that has a good quality digital camera to take the pics, it's cheaper, faster, and WAY more convenient. The only thing I would get a photographer to do would be the bridal portrait.

I think the photographer is one service provider you don't want to skimp on. The food, location, music and all of that fluff will be gone after the day but the wedding photos live on. My husband and I selected the cheapest estimate for our wedding photographer. Well, we got what we paid for, so-so photos. 3 years after our wedding my husband died and most of the photos I have of us are only our wedding photos. So - caveat emptor (buyer beware)!

Get a digital camera because you get to see the pose as you're taking the picture. Really good digital camera's take nice pictures! A lot of them look perfessionally done! They usually range from $40.00 to $300.00 and more. But, if it's wedding pictures...I wouldn't be cheap about it, I'd get a perfessional.

If you know someone with a good camera, or use your camera, and have a friend or family shots the wedding, and you get to crop and do the printing on the camera, with the digital cameras it is easy. buy a couple of cards. and you are good to go, that is what I did. worked beautiful. Or you can rent a camera!
