I covered her crate today and she went in and layed down not a sound! How much of the crate should I cover? Why does she bark and whine if there is not a blanket over the crate and when there is one she doesn't so far!?

because she wants to be on the bed with you.

you should leave enough uncovered for her to get some air.

It's not a good idea to cover the crate. The dog may like the
dark. Also if the dog is barking in the crate, consider taking
her out of the crate at night, and give her a bed to sleep in.
Since she is 2, she will probably be fine.

I don't have a very scientific answer for you! But, I've found that my pup will be quiet in her crate when it's covered, and when it's not she's more prone to bark. I always reward her for being quiet in her crate, and when she's crated and I'm home I'll uncover her. Unless she starts barking. Then I cover her up and wait 'til she stops, uncover and throw in a treat. Like many behavior problems, this one has almost disappeared because I can be clear about the consequences of barking!

I keep our puppies crate covered completely at night. They love their crate and ever go to it for naps, I leave the door open during the day and close and cover it at night. Dogs are cave dwelling animals and like the feel of a covered crate or dog house. It makes them feel safe.

why do you have her in a crate is the question.my black lab never messes in the house and sleeps in my bed every night.
let her out while your home and the dog will only whine if they need to go out to do there business.

because she can see you and wants to be with you... just make sure you arent over crating her.. at 2 she should be able to be out at night, toss a chewy or 2 in there with her as well. crating just like any tool can be abused.

It really doesn't matter why she doesn't keep you up at night noisemaking if covering the crate works. I would just continue to cover it up the same way that it worked the first time.
