Yes, anyone can become Jewish if they want. It doesn't have anything to do with blood, your mom is incorrect.

You can convert to Judaism, like any other religion. You'll just be a Jew by conversion. Your children will be considered Jewish by birth. A lot of rabbis won't start the conversion process until you are 18. Assuming you do an orthodox conversion, you will be considered just as Jewish as someone whose ancestors for the past thousand years were Jewish.
Judaism states your Jewishness is given to you by your mother. If you have a Jewish mother, you will automatically be considered Jewish.

The answer to this question is not a simple matter of opinion, and religion does apply.
In short, you cannot simply decide you are Jewish and be Jewish. You either have to have a Jewish mother, or convert under Jewish religious law. Anyone may convert if they follow the required laws and customs. All Jewish sects allow conversion, but it is uncommon and difficult. But if you are determined to life a Jewish life, it may be possible.

Hi,
Jewish people are Jews because it's their Nationality and race. "Jacob" Abraham's Grandson, name was change to Isreal. They became the Jewish Nation. Or the Nation of Isreal. They are a distinct People. Only a Jew can be a Jew. You can follow their religious beliefs, but you'll never be a jew!

Ask the Rabbi at a local synogogue that question. I believe currently, that your mother is answering regarding the biological jew, not a spiritual jew.

Yes, of course you can be! If you convert (through Orthodox Judaism), you'll be considered a full Jew...even by Israel!

One can convert to the Jewish faith. This requires a strong commitment to learn about Judaism and to obey the commandments.
When you first attempt to convert, the rabbi will try to discourage you. If you are sincere and can convince the rabbi, he will begin the lengthy process.
Your first step is to contact your local Orthodox rabbi (LOR).
