With the harness they can use their whole body to pull you, just like they do on dog competitions to pull large weighted objects. Does she have a problem pulling? If so I recommend the Gentle Leader.. They are awesome products that keep your doggy from pulling and keep them by your side =) and no its not a muzzle they can still open their mouths and everything =) they work for any type of dog!! I had one for my German Shepherd and Jack Russell terrier. I also used them when walking dogs at the animal hospital!! It is a wonderful collar!! Get one!!

Always use a harness, it is much less strain on their necks, you can still have a long enough leash regular or retractable one to give her some freedom safely. My "baby" weighs in at about 175 pounds and stands waist high, (I am 5'9) and I have never had a problem with the harness and control, my vet highly recommends the harness to reduce the stress on the neck and shoulder muscles regardless of the size of the dog. You can use both until she get use to the harness, use the lead and then the harness eventually she will learn the feel of the harness

Whichever you & the dog find comfortable. If your dog doesnt pull a lot & you prefer a normal lead use a regular lead.If you want extra control use a harness or a halti.I use a halti harness for my dog because he pulls. Its kind to his kneck & gives me complete control.I personally prefer a halti for pulling to a harness. Its kind to the dog & gives excellent control.

Harnesses are always better options. It decreases the stress on their neck, and makes it more difficult for the dog to pull.

that sort of dog, if it isnt trained properly on a lead, is always better to control with a harness.

Keep your lady on a lead, and let the dog run free.
