Blogblahblahblah is a liar! Tyson and Holyfield did not fight on June 9th 1996. If he was THERE he'd KNOW that. Anyways, I started to really get into boxing around 1996, not that I didn't like it before. I just started to REALLY like it and REALLY study it then because of MY 1996 fighter of the year Arturo "Thunder" Gatti. I bet if it were not for Gatti there'd be alot less for boxing fans, I probably wouldn't be one if not for him.

In 1996 Evander Holyfield won Ring magazines fighter of the year. Oscar De la Hoya and Roy Jones were 2nd and 3rd place.

anybody can recite ring magazine's top 3 list but it's more important to know WHY evander holyfield was ranked at the top:

the tyson-holyfield fight was built up for about 5 years and until the bitter end nobody gave evander any shot at all against tyson. when the fight came evander showed no fear of tyson and bullied him around the ring with extreme skill until knocking tyson out badly. it was evander's greatest moment ever in the ring and that's why he's the concensus fighter of the year in '96.

Bernard Hopkins and Felix Trinidad were in their primes back in 1996 but I'll call it a toss up between Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr.
