Use applesauce or pudding. Anything that will allow the pill to slide down. Some kids get scared of the pills, they think they will stick in their throat,or have had that happen. There are adults who have the same problem. You can also have the pharmacy fill the prescription in liquid form (if available) and it can be flavored. Some also can be made into chewable tablets. Also you can call the doctor that prescribed the pills, explain the situation, and he/she may prescribe a different medication in liquid form, etc. Also you could ask if the pills can be crushed and put in the applesauce or pudding. Your child will grow out of this and eventually not be a problem. Hope this helps.(A fellow parent with a child who couldn't swallow pills)

My daughter had a hard time swallowing pills.
As your son takes a drink of water have him swallow the pill with the mouthful of water. Or juice or milk. Even a favorite soda drink. Make sure the medication can be taken with certain liquids.
Tami just kept at it, until she did it. Your son can practice once a day on swallowing vitamin tablets. But be sure you get an okay from your doctor on a good vitamin. Some vitamins are not good for a person.

I can not imagine a 10 year old swallowing pills, that seems young. If the medicine is only available in pills, cut them in half. Try swallowing small candies to get started so if they start to dissolve at least they are sweet.

The way I learned to swallow pills was a bit unorthodox. Rather put the pill in my mouth first, I put liquid in. After that I then put the pill in my mouth and swallow with the liquid. Hope that helps.

We taught our son to swallow a pill by having him put the pill as far back in his mouth as he can - almost throwing it back there, then taking a big swallow of a beverage. It has worked really well for him. If the pill is really large, you may want to cut it in half, if it can be cut.

Tell him to keep in mind that "the pill is no bigger than a piece of meat and he readily swallows a piece of meat, right?" Also tell him to start with the pill as far to the back of the mouth as possible, And, lastly, have him drink water or carbonated soda out of a narrow-neck bottle to essentially flush the pill down. Preferably, the temp of the liquid should be room temperature or slightly warmer. As a last resort, you can crush the pill with a mortar and pestle and mix it in applesauce.

I am 23 and Still have a hell of a time swallowing pills. When I do swallow them they come right back up. I end up throwing up. So I tend to stick with liquid or chewables. Quite a few prescriptions come in chewable form.

Make it fun for him everything with kids has to be fun for some reason. If you can get the medication in a liquid form if not get the pill in gel and have them swallow with milk or hot coco it relaxes their throat muscles and makes it easier for them to swallow because kids and some adults tense up when they have to take pills.Good luck!

ive recently done some medication training, and they suggest that you swallow tablets with at least 100ml of water. any thing less and there is a chance that it may get stuck somewhere on the way down. personally i dont think fizz is a great idea as it sometimes removes some of the outer coating of the tablet making it taste even more horrable than it already is, and will proberly result in it being spat out.
