Genesis discuses the creation of the earth; how sin came about; and the first people to live on the earth. Many of the things I read contradict each other and do not make sense. If these things are wrong in just a small section of the bible, then imagine how many wrong statements the bible contains. This just makes everything invalid.

In 1:3 God creates light but then on the third day he is creating light to separate the day from night. That does not make sense because, he already did that and there was three days so there was night and day already. In chapter 2 verse 5, it says that no plants had yet sprung up but in 1:12 it says otherwise. Then, in 2:17 it says that if Adam eats from the tree of knowledge, he “will surely die.” That is not what God did to him. The serpent tells Eve that she will not die in 3:4 and he was right. What is meant in 3:22 by “he has become one of us”? Who is “us”? That makes no sense if it is God who is creating everything; who are the others?

Adam and Eve had Cain and Abel. When Cain was kicked out of Eden, it says that he went and had a child with his wife and built a city. How does he have a wife if Eve is the only female? Also, how is he building a city; with what other people? Yes time has passed but Enoch is Eve’s grandson so this is impossible. How is it that they developed such technology so quickly to build a city?

Genesis is obviously packed with a lot of illogical statements. How is it the that it can be true?

That's a lot of questions! I'll try to be as brief as possible...

>> In 1:3 God creates light but then on the third day he is
>> creating light to separate the day from night. That does not
>> make sense because, he already did that and there was
>> three days so there was night and day already.

There are those who want to interpret the 6 days of creation as: 6 literal 24-hour days. There is much in the text that would suggest we not take this view, but people do it nonetheless. While the basic content of Genesis follows what we now observe scientifically:

1) The creation of the universe & laws of physics
2) The forming of the atmosphere
3) The emergence of Land & Plants
4) The fixing/stablizing of the earth's orbit into days/years
5) The creation of sea creatures and birds
6) the creation of animals & man

...however, there is no basis for using the Genesis account as a chronological or scientific "textbook". That was never the intent. Rather, Genesis conveys a literal truth (that God is the creator of all) expressed in figurative language.

>> In chapter 2 verse 5, it says that no plants had yet sprung
>> up but in 1:12 it says otherwise.

This is a common misunderstanding that people have when they read Genesis 2...they see it as a "second account" of creation events. To explain, I would have to discuss Hebrew verb tense and phraseology. It would probably be more info than you wanted (!), so I'll just say this: That section is confusing to the way people in the 21st century express themselves..it is not unusual in Jewish literature...

>>Then, in 2:17 it says that if Adam eats from the tree of
>> knowledge, he “will surely die.” That is not what God did
>> to him.

Adam & Eve were created in perfection. No disease, perfect DNA, etc. They were created with the capacity to live for ever. Adam did die in the sense that he ushered in the corruption of our human nature. His act of disobedience brought death. The first death is physical: separation from our earthly bodies. The 2nd meaning of death is spiritual: separation of us from God....

>> What is meant in 3:22 by “he has become one of us”?
>> Who is “us”? That makes no sense if it is God who is
>> creating everything; who are the others?

Some theolgians see that "us" as a reference to God and His angels. Others say it is the first hint at the triune nature of God: Father, Son & Holy Spirit...

>> Adam and Eve had Cain and Abel. When Cain was kicked
>> out of Eden, it says that he went and had a child with his
>> wife and built a city. How does he have a wife if Eve is the
>> only female?

Some people will tell you that the first offspring married their own siblings. Personally, I disagree with that. Just because Adam and Eve were the primary creation of the human race does not mean that there were not others created as well. Again, some Christians will refuse to accept that because" it doesn't say it in the Bible". But "arguments from silence" are never a very solid answer...

>> Also, how is he building a city; with what other people? Yes
>> time has passed but Enoch is Eve’s grandson so this is
>> impossible. How is it that they developed such technology
>> so quickly to build a city?

Again, while Adam & Eve are the first humans, I believe that there were others as well... What constitues a city? A collection of people living in a common area. Probably very simple dwellings...

>>Genesis is obviously packed with a lot of illogical statements.
>> How is it the that it can be true?

The first chapters of Genesis is very simple and very concise in its wording. It is a brief overview and very short on details. The emphasis isn't about providing detailed info...its about the theme: God created the world, and many turned their backs on him...

You want a full college course on Genesis taught to you in one quick answer.. I will tell you very quickly that there is light in space at the formation of a star system. After the system was intact the sun was more defined.. Didn't you ever learn these things in a science class? The day that Man was disobedient to God's commandment he was separated from God. That is the definition of spiritual death.. Man died that very day spiritually. We became like God in that we knew good from evil. The Us is God... manifest to mankind as The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit..
Adam and his family spent years without any contact with God. I don't know how long the time span was but long enough for Adam to father a number of children that grew and were off on their own without any idea of who God is.. (Sort of like the condition you find yourself in) You have no idea how many generation were between Adam and Enoch. There could have been 20, maybe more. After all a new generation come along about every 20 years.. I am sure the city that was built don't look much like New York, or LA. It was an ancient city.

What I see by your questions is that you need a teacher. The Spirit can do that job if you would let Him into your life. Until then you will continue to see nothing but a story you don't understand in the Scripture. I sense you hatred of God in your question.. There is nothing I can do to straighten you out.. All I can do for you beside give you an answer you won't respect is to ask God to make you His own.... Jim

The question ands comments pose several (alledged) contradictions.
1. In the original language Hebrew, God in Genesis 1 is plural not singular.
2. There could be light on day one (Jesus was the light of the world, and he did exist 'in the beginning') even though the Sun, and stars were not created until day 4.
3. Cain could have had 'sex' with his wife (other than Eve) as Adfam had other cchildren besides Abel, Cain, and Seth.(Gen. 5:4).
Any other questions?

The contradictions are only superficial. they are fairly easily figured out . But if i told you what the answers were your pride would get in the way. one of US refers to people who have the knowledge of good and evil. Should i elaborate further? I can explain the rest of it . But i am not going to give my very best to people who are going to pee all over it. He said you will surely die. But that didn't mean necessarily right away did it? He didn't say when. But this stuff is pretty hard to figure out when you WANT the discrepancies to be there. SEVEN is wrong The other races were created some 2,000 years before adam and eve. And the DAYS He refers to are actually 1,000 year periods. So on the sixth day or(1,000 yr period) he created the races of the world. On the seventh DAY ( another 1,000 yr period) he rested. After that he created adam and eve.So the other peoples of the world had 2,000 yrs to be fruitful and multiply before adam and eve were even on the scene.

You are right, I agree with you. I consider myself a religous person but the bible confuses and frustrates when you take the time to read it as you obviously have. The best thing you can do is live by the teachings of Jesus. IE: the prodigal son, his healings , forgive 7x 70 and so on. A lot of the stuff in the bible was designed to control and make people fear God and you can never sincerly love or respect a God you are afraid of.

Matt 24:25, Mark 13:30, Luke 24:32 ". . . this technology shall no longer bypass until ultimately countless those issues be finished." Jesus replaced into telling his disciples that "temple could be destroyed, wars, calamities, fake prophets, and then he could look above the cloud in triumph during the tip days, until now the dying of his disciples." countless those have been reiterated in each and all of the three gospels. yet his disciples died 2000 years in the past. end days did no longer ensue, and Jesus lied approximately it or the gospel writers lied approximately it. in spite of the case, that's the suitable contradiction of all. as a results of fact Jesus isn't a god otherwise how ought to a god be incorrect approximately his own prophecy? Or the bible is in simple terms a e book of lies! EDIT: do no longer attempt to apply sophistry on online talk board. THIS technology spoke of the technology of his disciples, and there is no different meaning. Such denials as quickly as back proves that Christians lie just to justify their god.

Creationism in the Old Testament sense is dead. Although a lot of people are trying to twist the facts and evidence we have now to their liking, the academic community has moved on.

ALL religious books and scripts are plagued with untruths non logics and lies. but after reading most , I've found that at least the OT tries to explain things that ignorant people might understand life better. The quran just sets down rules and gives penalties, plagarizes other works and tells outright lies and stupidities. I suggest you look for the mistakes and contradictions in ALL religious texts instead of focusing on the bible.

Don't try making sense out of an anthology written by multiple authors. (But do give this a thumbs-down if you're scared to look into it)
