I have a "planned" Golden Retriever and a rescued one. I paid money for the planned one because I got to meet both her parents, I got my dog's pedigree for 5 generations, plus copies of both her parents pedigrees 5 generations back.
I also got the paperwork for the health testing done on both the parents, hips, eyes, heart, thyroid, etc. I wanted a dog that could do Obedience, Agility, Therapy dogs, and be a wonderful pet. By having this information, I had a good idea in advance my Golden would be capable of doing all these things.
The rescued Golden? well, he was a crapshoot, 2 time loser at Animal Control, branded both Dog and People Aggressive. He was a project.

either way dogs adopted and bought both cost money. when you adopt a dog you pay for it they just call it adoption fee not price.
adopted- dog without home gets one
-saving animal that could be put down
-might need more care and training if abused
- most are not puppies and have been
raised by someone else or abused
so you might have to retrain them or adjust others work
buying
- can by purebred or mix where father and mother can both be viewed
-see where its been raised
-raise your own puppy
-choose the puppy from all the rest
-wont need careful attetion and training cause of abuse
- choose what type of dog an dwhat breeder etc...
So the choice is up too you, it all depends on what kind of dog you want. good luck

Even adopted ones have a price tag...
All are priceless IMHO though.. regardless of the price you pay for them.
I paid almost 700 for my one dog and 500 for my other.. to me, its nothing.. money well spent.
Myself, I think that if someone is willing to pay for a dog, they are also willing to take care of it properly... or at least one would hope.
Edit: and for those that do the ... save a life by buying from the shelters.. cause.. yes, you do have to pay for the dogs at the shelters too.. Its just called a adoption fee...
What about the purebreds, are they not living too?? Are you not saving a live?
Its not a case of saving a shelter dog or a pure bred pup's life... its called giving them a life that is right for them... cause even some of them purebred pups end up being put down...
Dogs are alive when we buy/adopt them... but giving them a good life and maintaining that life is something else. Many people claim they want a dog, they adopt or buy whichever... but the novelty wears off.. and regardless where the pup came from it could end up back in the shelter or worse yet dead.

the ones that you buy are usually purebreed and people buy them most of the time to show them. the adopted ones are just as better. if you want a dog you should get the one that you want whether you buy it or adopt it.

I don't know.....it seems like a status symbol to me..I have had many shelter dogs over the years, they are so much better socializing them now too....I figure I would rather have a homely shelter dog and save a life than put money in a breeders pocket and have people admire my dog.....not that my dogs were not noticed, but they were noticed for their great dispositons and good behavior.....shelters have a meet your match program now, these dogs are screened, they don't put vicious biters out there for adoption....also, i don't go for the puppies, most puppies, even at the shelter are very adoptable, I pick middle aged really homely ones......they are beautiful to me......!!!! good question.

How much you spend to get a companion. There are purebreed dogs available at shelters because people thought they wanted that breed and then find out that it isn't the dog for them because of energy level or whatever. Do your research on breeds before you do anything, then check www.petfinder.com to find a dog that meets your requirements at a shelter.

I always get my Boxers from the same breeder I met while working for vets. I know her dog's bloodlines, that they are healthy & have great temperments. My sister has adopted several Labrdaors through a breed rescue group, and also loves her dogs. It is just a matter of choice!

Most people by a dog, because at the time they are puppies, but most dogs that are adopted are a year old or more, also when you by a puppy the do not come with any history or problems and adopted dogs can come with history or problems.

Because a lot of people have the wrong frame of mind. They think, "eww, second-hand goods" or they think that the animal will not be "good enough" for them. Really, it's the only way to go if you ask me. Here there are millions of unwanted pets that will probably be put to sleep because nobody adopts them, while people go out and spend hundreds on dogs from a breeder. It's senseless. I am glad that you asked this question!

because sum ppl are suuuper uber wealthy and highstatus and want something else to brag about in their lives. if you don't feel like spending money on a dog that will prob get a good home if you don't adopt it, save another dog's life and go to the aspca. there, the dogs have been saved off the streets, and need a home. alot of them are still pups, so you can spend even more TIME with your new pooch. otherwise if the shelter doesn't have any space, they will eventually have to put the dog "to sleep" permanantly. :( so if you are thinking about adopting... please save a helpless puppy's life! here is the aspca's web site... http://www.aspca.org/site/PageServer .
