You could and they aren't going to choke on a small piece even if they did swallow it. Also gum chewing is good for teeth particularly if sweetened with Xylitol a key ingredient in most infant toothpastes.
However it is more than likely just going to make a huge mess.
BTW "Goo Gone" gets chewing gum out of most things.

My 2 1/2 year old has gum as well. She has been having it since she was 2. As it;'s kinda hard to say NO when her brother and sister are having it. She has finally learnt NOT to swallow it. The only gum they get is the sugar free gum. and in small amounts.

I would not recommend giving a two year old gum, since they don't have the understanding not to swallow the gum yet. I usually recommend to parents that they wait until a child is four years, and can understand that gum is for chewing only.

I give my two year old gum all the time and the worst thing that has happened is that he swallowed it. as far as choking goes ( I'm a very paranoid mother when it comes to this) as long as your child isn;t horsing around or laying down he shouldn't choke.

if you can handle the possible choking and/or sticky mess that gum creates when it falls out of the mouth, then give the child gum.

Gum? What kind of stupid question is that? First of all it is a choking hazard, second of all gum with sugar is bad for their teeth.. Give them a good treat like a piece of fruit.....

I give my daughter (3) sugar-free gum. She loves it, knows to keep it out of her hair (well, almost all the time LOL ). Also I don't freak out when she swallows it.
