My son is 3 1/2 and still in one. I would have gotten him a bed but he is very happy in his toddler bed. I think we will get him a bed this spring.

We got my son his own waterbed when he was 3 1/2. When he proved that he would not fall out. Most toddler beds are made for children under the weight of 50 lbs. You need to go with your own feelings on this issue because only you know when the timing is right. I think that getting a big bed is a large step for a child. Does the child ask for a big bed? I try to get my children involved in those kind of choices. But the best part of getting a big bed, I told him mommy and daddy could read to him in bed. That sold him on it.

My son is almost 4 and he went from crib to twin bed....I think toddler beds are pointless! The only reason you get them is for the bar on the side...You can buy the take down bars for the twin beds at Walmart really cheap!!!

Most people I know who do use toddler beds usually have them in a regular bed by the time they are 5

If the bed is too short for him/her to lay down with arms extended above their head.
