"Music is your own experience, your own thoughts, your wisdom. If you don’t live it, it won’t come out of your horn. They teach you there’s a boundary line to music. But, man, there’s no boundary line to art."
-Charlie Parker, "Children of Albion: Poetry of the Underground"
Charles "Bird" Parker, Jr. (August 29, 1920 – March 12, 1955) was an American jazz saxophonist and composer. Early in his career Parker was dubbed "Yardbird" (there are many contradictory stories of the name's origin). It was later shortened to "Bird" and remained Parker's nickname for the rest of his life and inspiration for the titles of his works, such as "Yardbird Suite" and "Bird Feathers".
Parker was one of the most prominent and inspirational musical minds and American intellectuals of the 20th century.

I'm not sure who said it. It goes " It is a poor musician who blames his instrument." It will work for plenty of situations.

Best one I know of comes from the man himself, Bob Dylan.
"Come mothers and fathers throughout the land, and don't criticize what you can't understand. Your sons and daughters are beyond your command. Your old road is rapidly aging, please get out of the new one if you can't lend your hand, for the times they are a'changin."
