I thought you were cynical! there is a slight difference you know...

I don't think being cynical is wrong, as in you think "it's likely to rain" or "I'm likely to die", but it's best to be a realist. A realist says "this is really bad, there doesn't seem to be a way out, but there's gotta be! and i know it aint killin' myself..."

pessimism is usually brought to the extreme, where you end up not believing that God can get you out. A cynical person knows there's a way out, but thinks it's hard to get there and it'd be a miracle if it happens. A realist knows the situation is bad, but there's usually a light at the end of the tunnel. An optimist thinks that no situation is all that bad.

I think being realistic is the best option, mainly cause I'm skeptical about the other views....

No it is not. We all question whether God is really there. That's part of being human. Faith is a hard thing to deal with. Faith is the belief in something that cannot be seen. God answers all prayers He says "yes, no, wait." I heard an Allison Kraus song that really hit me. She was praying to God to forgive her for her moments of disbelief. We all have them if people would be really honest about it.If there is a God,and I hope there is, He knows us much better than anyone else ever will. When I have the pessimist in me, I look out the window and look at birds, how the wind sounds when it blows, stop and realize just how small we really are in the grand order of the universe. So, I live like there is a God, if there isn't one I've still lived a good life and helped others, if there is then I get to go home.

is it wrong? being pessimistic isn't mentally healthy for you regardless if you are christian or not. i am a christian and i was a pessimistic for years. if you want to be christ-like then you should overcome pessimism. i'm still working on no being a pessimist. it's not easy but my life is better for it.

Well, yes I would be pessimistic if I was a Christian. In fact when I did believe I was miserable. Always feeling guilty about what I did that was sinful. Always wondering if I would make it into paradise. Although my belief didn't teach in hell, I couldn't imagine the fear and horror every Christian faces when wondering how they will be judged in the end.

How pessimistic would you be if you believed that you could spend all eternity in a place of torment and misery?

If by pessimist you mean that you question concepts, then absolutely not. It's good to question.
BUT, be careful that you don't think you have to fully understand everything before you embrace it. In my estimation, this is where we have to test things by the Spirit.
It's a balance. You can overly question and get stuck. You can also embrace everything and get way off track.

Being pessimistic is human. Letting it control you is the issue.

you've wishful questioning about your God being genuine. Is that what you advise by technique of optimism? I particularly have wishful questioning that individuals will stop accepting claims without questioning them. i'm very confident that i will not get scammed, yet i'm pessimistic about you being able to split fiction from reality.

Yes. In Philippians we are told to think about things that are noble, right, pure and lovely, things that are excellent and praiseworthy. Doing that won't let you be pessimistic.
