Many times they are the same thing, and in this case, the way the majority portray themselves, they are the same.

Bible stories often provide good moral tales. Most have been proven impossible, but many fundamentalists are so far gone now that anything won't phase them, they aren't literal stories, but there are some classic biblical tales that are brought up in many literary topics in our culture.

Father teaches us the highest principals by using symbols. As children we learn at one one level, as we spiritually mature, we see more. There are a myiad of ways to learn from Adam and Eve. Everyone has read the story, but few have learned all there is to know.

The stories in the Bible are there for a number of reasons, for history, to show people what happens when you follow God, and Jesus told short stories or parables to teach lessons.

Some are to teach lessons, some are to record history.

Many are actually to show the lineage of Mary and Joseph. Jesus was born of a descendant of David, & the Bible tells of Joseph's descent through Adam, David, Boaz & Ruth, etc. It also states Joseph & Mary were of the same family (since Jesus was God's son, not Joseph's). Read them, & you'll see the importance.

You should read (if you haven't) Joseph Campbell.

He takes many different but similar 'stories' from various cultures and shows how they are the same in that they are stories for transforming the human psyche in particular ways.
