German shepherds come second to the biggest shedders of any breed. Only the Malamute comes first.

Can you stop the shedding? No. You can reduce it. Good quality food can lessen shedding...Canidae, Royal Canin....etc.

Your Shepherd is like mine, it is 'blowing' it's coat in anticipation of spring...(even though it is cold outside, yes!) This happens twice a year. Although the Shepherd sheds constantly throughout the year, it is this 'blowing' that is driving you insane. The vaccuum is always on at our house.

Go and buy the brush called The Furminator. This is a special brush with 'teet' that rake the coat of the shepherd. It works far better than a normal brush (even the flat brushes). You are not going to beleieve the difference. Then, brush your dog every two days. You should see a difference in the amount of shedding.

I hope that I have helped. I am losing my mind as well...my home has white ceramic floors, which I wish I could paint black

Good Luck!

No you can't stop it, it's a natural process. A lot depends on where you live (north, south, hot or cold climate) but generally you can only lessen the shedding by making the dog live outside day and night with shelter (or maybe you notice it less if it's no longer shedding fur indoors!)
German Shepherds have a double coat ,a woolly under and water-resistant top coat, which is how the breed was developed, to enable it to sustain all weather conditions while shepherding day and night, on German hills. Depending on where you are climatically, they usually shed most of their winter coat in early spring (which can be a nighmare) but in certain warmer climates, can shed twice a year (shedding undercoat and top coat too).

Best thing when shedding begins, is to groom several times a day ( I know it's a pain but it's either that or more hoovering/sweeping, so you choose!)

You'll never fully stop your dog from shedding. If you can't deal with a little dog hair, maybe a dog isn't the pet for you.

You can help reduce it. Feeding a high quality food such as Innova Evo, or Canidae, to name a couple, will help reduce shedding. As well as daily brushing.

Please note that if your dog is shedding to the point it has bald spots, this is a sign of a medical problem, and your dog needs a vet.

you cant stop shedding.
it is spring time.
your dog has to loose its entire coat and get a bright new summer one.
try brushing 2 to 3 times a day for the next few weeks.
