I am a Christian! And I have never lusted in my life... and furthermore, if I ever do lust, I will be the first to pluck my lusting eye out (whichever one it was) and cast it into a fire!
I am not a hypocrite like other "Christians" are, who water down the Bible to make it fit their ideas.... No sir! IF THE BIBLE SAYS IT - THAT SETTLES IT! NO QUESTIONS.
I will not be one of those so-called Christians who, in the end days (which are here, BTW - because there are wars and rumors of wars and there are lots of bad things happening) who will be deceived by SATAN!
WHy am I the only one who tells the women in my church to SHUT UP!??
I'll tell you why... Because I am one of the few people in the world that knows how to OBEY GOD!
God bless you all, and ps. most everyone of you are GOING TO HELL to be BURNED FOREVER!
Hey, don't argue with me - IT'S BIBLE!!! ARGUE WITH GOD!

I think that the parts "we" dont like are not to be taken literally is a huge overstatement, and a vast generalization. Take Revelations for example. I dont like the fact that millions of people are going to suffer during the Tribulation, but i take it literally. What you need to do when reading the Bible is understand the context of what your reading. Would Jesus want me to gouge out my eye, causing me pain and suffering for feeling lust towards a woman?...no. Does he want to convey the importance of not lusting and the pain sin causes God...yes.

Sure, I am one of those Christians that have lusted, and no I did not gouge out my eyes. The reason is that I choose to use reading comprehension when I read the Bible instead of stupidity! Next.

You have to realize that Jesus spoke in parables and metaphorical language.
Matthew 13:34 "All these things Jesus spoke to the multitude in parables; and without a parable He did not speak to them,"
It's pretty obvious that this isn't to be take literally. But what Jesus is trying to say is that sin is very very serious and we are to cut sin off from ourselves rather than to perish with them.
We are to deal with sin in our lives dramatically as if we were gouging out our own eye or cutting off our own limb.

yes people are imperfect and have lusted, but when said to gouge out your eyes, he is telling you to take the necessary steps to fix what you are doing wrong.

Hey if we aren't suppossed to lust then why do we have the ability to do so? I mean there are a lot of beautiful women who we can only dream of getting but we can't get them all, so this emotion must have a purpose or else it would not exist.

Yes, I've lusted and repented for it. What Christ is saying in this verse essentially how serious He sees sin is. Jesus tells us that sin is so bad that it's worth mutilating yourself in order to NOT sin.

I dont like your smart a** questions, but you make ALOT of sense dude. ( Im a Christian, but i know the truth because im an Israelite/Jew/*****....whatever you wanna call it.) You're right though those Christians you're talking about only read the new testament. They leave out the whole old testament.
