If someone I know has an allergy to Codeine (anaphylactic reaction), can they still be safe taking derivatives like Hydrocodone?

We are not physicians here. No one should take that med unless advised to do so by his/her primary physician who should know his patient.

I am allergic to Codeine, and I can take a certain cough syrup that is a derivative to it, but I can't take Hydrocodone. I have the same reaction to it as I do to Codeine.

If it was me, I wouldn't risk it.
