At 19 his options are limited. A work visa is highly unlikely. A marriage visa really isn't practical right now as you would have to prove you have enough income to support him for three years.

That leaves a study visa, but he would have to be capable of paying his own way in college. If he could do that and be somewhere close to you, you would both have the time to find out if this really is what you want. If it is not, he returns to the UK with, hopefully, a degree that will do him some good and a lesson learned along the way.

If, over the course of four years (say) you find that this is what you want, he would have to seek to adjust status. That can be done, but may I suggest you take it one step at a time?

EDIT: Carlsberg72, the green card lottery is not open to UK residents and probably never will be, due to the numbers of immigrants from the UK by other means. There is a special program for Northern Ireland though but it is a temporary arrangement that came out of the Good Friday Agreement.

This is a tough situation, as he is not married to a US Citizen or has any US relatives, he will have to go into the green card lottery in the UK. That can take anything from 1 to 7 years to get.

I am from the UK and I got my green card by marrying my wife and then living in the UK with her for 3 1/2 years. Spousal Visas are much more straight forward to get although they still take 4-6 months.

With you being only 16, marriage is not really an option right now, my best piece of advice, is get to work now. It's a complicated process, but if you go through it VERY carefully, you should get there. But then it is going to be down to the luck of the draw as to whether he will get a visa or not.

There are various websites out there including the Homeland Security that will help you through the process, the sooner you start, the sooner you will get him, but you will need to be VERY patient.

Good luck!

He is looking to use you. Don't be a sucker. I have personally known a number of foreign men who married and divorced only for the purpose of getting the green card.
Find yourself a local boy. They may not be as exciting as a foreign lad, but they can be loving, tender, respectful and loyal.
Good luck.
