Hi, I am trying to enter all of my daughter's swim times in an Excel spreadsheet. I cannot for the life of me find the format option which will allow me to enter minutes, seconds and milliseconds. There is nothing under time or Custom. I have attempted all of the ones that look like they will work, and it completely changes my numbers!!!!!!!!!!!!! When I put it under General, it still cuts off my last millisecond number. If anyone knows the format, I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you

Thhanks, but that didn't work either. the format should be 2:23.44, being minute, second, millisecond. It completely changes the numbers. Here is an example: When I enter in 1:03.38, this is what I get: 00.00.07, whcih, in the bar at the top, shows up as: 0.000733564814814815

Yes you can do this. Here's how.

Using the custom format TYPE box, put in this: "hh:mm:ss.000".

That's the format for Hours, Minutes, Seconds and Milliseconds. You can use one, two or three zeroes as you like. Just note, the separator is a period not a colon. Also, you can drop the hours if not applicable.

Hope this helps and hope your daughter wins the gold!

Kind Regards,

Go to:

Format cell
Custom
Type in 000000 or try 00.00.00 in the bar that contains the word "general"

That is the key bit - you must TYPE it in the bar that says general, while in the custom section. Then simply click okay and type in the data you want.
I hope this works for you.

When you next enter the data you may also wish to enter it in the form of:

xx.xx.xx - placing "." between each number.
