This saying means that make sure you know who your friends are and why they are special to you and the saying keep your enemies close simply means know who they are and why you are enemies. It could also mean know where your friends are and know your enemies schedule but to me that just seems like you are stalking them and that is just kinda weird.

Good Godfather reference. But this means that you trust your friends more than you do your enemies so you can keep them at a further distance from you than your enemies. They need to be kept really close, like they are your best friends, as you cannot trust them. This allows you to keep an eye on them.

First of all ask your self why they are " your enemies".... then if they are sure enemies, then keep "close eyes" on them so they will not surprise you in any given day(or night)...
