My disk defragmenter will not work. The program opens , however , when i click on defragment nothing happens. Does the fact that I recently installed a registry cure program have anything to do with this?

Firstly, dont be too sure it aint workin! It may take some time to go thru anylizing. Start it up and let it run for awhile.

Try these things, in this order:
1. run checkdisk. At the command prompt type "chkdsk /f" and enter. Then answer "Y" enter to the question to run it at next boot up.
2. Restore your computer to an earlier time. Start Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore. Then click restore my computer to an earlier time. Pick a date when it worked ok.
3. If neither of these work, you may have to reinstall the operating system, or at least repair it.

What registry cure program?

1) Eliminate disk and registry errors

Run "check disk" check both options and restart. (runs a long time)
Run Disk Cleanup then Disk Defragment.

Microsoft OneCare Live, run “full service scan”
Updates windows, virus and spyware scan, disk cleanup, disk fragmentation (if needed), backup and clean registry, and check for open firewall ports.

Malicious Software Removal Tool (run “full scan”)

2) If this doesn't work, run "System restore" to a point before this happened.

3) If this doesn't work, check and repair system files if needed

Start> Run> enter "sfc.exe /scannow" in the run box.
Run. You will need the windows XP disk.
This utility will check all system files against the disk and repair if needed.

System File Checker (sfc.exe)

4) If this doesn't work, do a repair install.
Repair install. (should not lose data) Backup files first.

Most times when there's a glitch with the defrag utility you can get it to run correctly by first booting into Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key. Once in Safe Mode, then run the defrag. Hope this helps.
