My wife and I have a 12 week old Jack Russell, and we're trying to make the decision of whether we want to neuter him. My question is about breeding and stud fees. How much would we be able to charge as a stud fee? He is registered with the World Wide Kennel Club, and according to the breeder we bought him from, his father was in a TV commercial. What are the ups and downs to this, and how much could we expect to get from this?

World Wide Kennel Club registration is not worth the paper it is written on.

If someone has a good ***** they can use any champion dog so why would they want to use a pet?

Only the best stock should reproduce.
If you really want to breed you need to find out if your dog can be registered with a reputable organisation like the AKC or JRTCA.
You need to show him & compete in earthdog events.
You need health certificates & specialist testing.( some are done annually)
You need facilities for visiting b1tches to stay & you need to supervise the matings...................
Grow up & get the dog neutered.

Please don't breed your dog. There are SO many dogs (including JRT's) that have no homes...you'd only be adding to the problem.

Are you prepared to get OFA hip/patella certifications? BAER and CERF? How about genetic testing? Are you prepared to show your dog? If you answered "no" to any of the above questions, DO NOT BREED.

It's selfish and irresponsible. Not to mention that by not neutering him you increase his risks of testicular and prostate cancers. You'll also need to get brucillosis testing done before every mating (it's a canine STD that can kill your dog).

You don't HAVE to do these things, but in order to be a responsible breeder you will. Otherwise you're just a backyard breeder adding to pet overpopulation out of greed.

If you don't know much about it yet, I would suggest not breeding it. Yes, your dog may have a good family bloodline, but at the same time since you haven't breeded them before there are many risks.

I would suggest neutering him, there's many dogs out there that need a good home.
