I think it's great that you are giving your children's father pics & info. That is very thoughtful for him & for your child. As to WHY, who knows?!?! We can never really be sure what is in the heart of others. Sadly, you will probably never know or understand why a person could ignore their own child. For you (and me) it is a completely foreign concept. The loss is his, although it sounds like he may never even realize what he has lost. Poor sap.
You only have control of YOUR thoughts, YOUR actions and YOUR reactions.
I would strongly recommend to seek legal advice in obtaining FULL PHYSICAL and FULL LEGAL custody of your child. The laws vary from state to state in regard to the children of unmarried couples, but regardless, you really should have it LEGAL, and in WRITING that you have complete custody of your child. That will take away one worry. Once that is done, then you could go for child support if you want.
I strongly suggest you take legal steps to protect yourself and your child.
Good luck! You sound like a caring person.
I forgot to add...DOCUMENT EVERYTHING!!!

I used to work as a social worker in NYS, the laws are different everywhere and I would consult with someone from family court before you do anything. Having a father sign away his parental rights is a great idea if you think he may come along later and be interested (especially after you have moved on). The only down fall is that you may not be able to sue for child support once he signs away his rights.

Some people are just cold and uncaring and there isn't much that you can do when it comes to that.
Go after him for child support payments even if you don't need them. If you don't need the money to help you raise your child then put the money into the bank for your child's education fund.
Move on with you and your baby's lives as there is no reason to toil over some one who just doesn't care. Get him to pay for child support that is important to and for your child, after all he helped bring the child into the world. He needs to do his part even if it is only by giving money each month for your child's well being. He may not be able give up parental rights if he pays child support, you need to check this.
Good luck to the two of you, and God Bless You too!

I wish I had a good answer for you. I just don't understand how a parent could have nothing to do with their kids. My children are my life. They haven't seen their dad in three years. He's called once. I personally wouldn't ask my children's dad to sign over his paternal rights. Why bother? It's too bad for him if he doesn't want to know his children. And , if you take away his parental rights, then you are giving him the freedom to walk away and never look back. By doing that , you take away any responsibility he has for his children. Then he wins!! Is that what you really want?

This is my situation..I hope it helps yours. My daughter is six. Her biological father left the state when he found out I was pregnant and kept swearing by phone that he was coming back to see her. The phone calls stopped the minute she was born. I have now been married to my husband (my daughter's daddy) for nearly five years. He is now legally adopting her and since the other guy has never had contact we are not required to track him down. His rights are automatically terminated.
I hope you find what is best for you and your child.

Why would you terminate his rights? He's obviously not using them. Go for child support, he might change his mind about being a dad when it hits his wallet. If you terminate and he dies unexpectedly, your child gets no benefits. If there is inheritence coming from him or his family, your child gets nothing. If he hits a big lottery, your child will get nothing. Most states won't allow termination without someone else ready to adopt them. Because every child deserves a father, even if they aren't a good one.

well you do have custody. And as long as he is the father you trying to communicate with him is best. talk to a lawyer see if there is anything leagal you can do. Child support throguh court might open his eyes. if he says he doesn't want to pay then ask him to sign over his rights. if he still says no, then you go farther with a lawyer present.

Go to the Friend of the Court's office, and find out how to start making him pay support. He made a baby, he needs to pay support. Like it or not, that's his responsibility.
