It can be left at the office, if there is one. Or UPS will just leave it by your door...or you can arrange with UPS to pick up the package at their facility

When my sister got a large package from UPS while she was at work, they didn't leave it at the door when no one was home. They left a card saying that the package was at the post office, and they would deliver the next day or hold it a few days until she could pick it up at the post office.
If this is a large package that has to signed for (most do to prevent thefts), they will hold the package at the UPS station in your town or city, then you can pick it up. If you're not sure whether you have to sign for it, call your UPS station in your town, and tell them you would like them to hold your package so you can pick it up after school. Don't let them leave it on your porch, anybody can take it then, and they will.

If he has access to the building, you can write "UPS, driver release ok" on a note on your door and he'll leave it ..otherwise he'll have a neighbor sign for it. If he does not have access to the building he will ring your door and if noone answers he'll probably put it back on the truck and give it 2 more tries on consecutive business days. If there is a house next door, he may drop it there and leave you a note. If you live in a ery nice area he may just leave it at the door.
UPS does not leave anything at the post office. The first responder is talking about a package via the US postal service.

I worked in apartment management for 2 years and we had a policy in our office of not taking residents' packages because of lack of room and because we did not want to be held responsible for them. You will need to check with your management and find out if they will hold a package for you. Don't just assume they will or your package may be returned. If they won't hold it for you, you may ask a neighbor to sign for you if there is someone around you trust.

Leave a note on your door to leave the package at your rental office (if they allow it), or with a trusted neighbor or with the Postal office or UPS.
