They are actually better suited to the heat than a short nosed breed like a pug, Boston terrier, etc would be. See the link below. Just exercise them in the cooler parts of the day, always make sure they have plenty of water, and keep them inside in the air conditioning. I have a husky/Rottie mix (has the coat of a husky) and he does fine as an indoor dog. They have easy grooming needs (just brushing them a lot), but you should invest in a Furminator if you own a heavy shedder. I love these tools!

I rescued a husky while in San Antonio, Tx. Yes it gets hot .. but like everyone else has said.. provide lots of water.. a small kiddie pool is great for the heat, .lots of grooming and being inside helps as well.. If u do decide to get a husky, do some research. They take a lot of care and attention.. they love to dig and they love to run but they are amazing and loving!

If you want low grooming, DO NOT get a husky! I have 2 of them, and I am constantly brushing them. I also spend a considerable amount of time vacuuming my house from the ever present dog hair. I live in California, and my dogs do okay in the heat, but then we have a plastic wading pool for them that they like to lounge around in when it is hot outside. My dogs are good with other dogs that are similar in size, but generally do not like small dogs - especially ones that bark or yap alot.

I wouldn't suggest a husky. Big Dogs that generally have low grooming reqs and tolerate hot weather would be for example: Anatolian Shepherd, Doberman, German Shepherd, Weimaraner, or a Giant Schnauzer.

A dog's fur coat serves two purposes, keeping it warm and keeping it cool. A dog does not sweat like we do, they cool themselves by panting. The thick fur helps to insulate them from the heat as well as the cool. You do need to make sure they have lots of water and shade.

Huskies are not the best dog for every dog owner. They are nice, attractive and intelligent animals but they are much closer to their wolf cousins than most dogs and take more work to socialize/train them. Be aware of that before you get one. Also, count on a lot of grooming in the spring and summer. They shed enough to make a mattress.

Huskys need alot of grooming. They have a double coat that is constantly being replaced. Hot weater climate I dont think would suite this breed at all unless your going to keep him inside all the time when it gets really hot.
