Why is it that many people think of "Thailand" and "sex worker" in the same thought?

Prostitution is unlawful in Thailand. Period.

There are NO "licensed sex workers" in Thailand.

Yes, there are prostitutes in Thailand - as in every country!

Almost every country has laws (or regulations) prohibiting prostitutes from entering as immigrants. As for tourists, if no visa is needed, how do you tell if a person is a prostitute or not? If a visa is required, the consulate workers would probably find out that a person had been arrested as a prostitute, but not if she had avoided arrest.

If you want to take your Thai girlfriend on a vacation, I suggest you just do it as a tourist to a country not requiring a visa for Thai citizens (like Korea and other ASEAN nations).

No such thing as a licenced sex worker and no restrictions on travel or difficulty of getting a passport for any Thai unless they have some legal restriction placed by a court. I have never heard of this happening but it is theoretically possible.
Getting a visa to get into another country can be difficult for any Thai because many want to go overseas to work and many Thai's have overstayed visa's in the past. Normally countries require proof that the Thai has a job, that the job will still be there when they return, that they have sufficient funds to travel which may be sponsorship or savings, that they have a legitimate purpose to travel and that they are likely to honor the limitations of the visa they are issued. If you want to take a Thai overseas it is easy to contact the embassy of the country you wish to take them to and find exact details from them.

As others have mentioned, there's no such thing as a licensed sex worker because, of course, prostitution is illegal in Thailand.

There's no restriction on who can travel. Usually the limitation is how difficult it is to get a visa for the country in question. Easiest countries for a Thai (with no previous travel experience) to get into are neighboring countries such as Cambodia and Malaysia, as well as the regional hubs Singapore and Hong Kong. Forget Europe and the US- there's a lengthy vetting process involved that someone involved in the sex industry is unlikely to pass.

Ihave never heard of a licensed sex worker in Thailand and I live in Thailand. If a Thai has a valid passport and wishes to travel there is no reason why they cannot go....

Thailand doesn't license sex workers, it would be up to the country they are traveling to that would determine their eligibility for entry into their country. I wouldn't think most countries would look favorably upon listing sex worker as an occupation when traveling to their country, nor would it be advisable to list sex worker as your occupation. Otherwise, anyone holding a valid passport should be allowed to leave Thailand, whether they will be allowed entry into another country, is up to that particular country.

No such thing as a licensed sex worker. This is illegal under Thai laws.

Their occupation would be officially listed as waitress. They would have no problems leaving the country with an official passport.
