It's probably a combination of nerves and awkwardness about putting on the condom -- it happens, it's not a big deal.
Try being the one to put on the condom, perhaps the fact that it's *your* hand touching him will help keep him aroused. Also, make sure it's not an awkward and stressful thing, but just a part of the foreplay.

maybe the condom is too tight and cuts off the flow of blood. i am a larger man, and usually we dont use condoms for that reason. of course the risk goes UP when not using one. but if he can control his orgasms, and can pull out at the right time...welll maybe you might look into that.
basically
bigger condoms if he is above 7 in, and, if you dont want to use it, then you might get a second line of defense and be on the pill.

this is a hard question b/c i never really had sex yet but, i think he needs to relax more. or i think you should do something to turn him on first then let him put on the codom, but its normal i think for that to happen.
