Ask an American who has seen "Under Siege" then he'd probably go with the Navy Seals or some other American unit. They have the best and most expensive equipment if nothing else.

Russia's Spetsnaz is a spent force these days, but the British special services are still up there with the best - a straight fight between the SAS and SBS. They are at least well-trained and do a good job with the resources at hand.

For sheer experience though, you have to seriously look at the Israeli special forces - Mossad and the like. They have been condcuting operations almost non-stop ever since Israel was founded in 1948 and have plenty of practice at intelligence and counter-intelligence over the years.

No, The SBS (Special Boat Squadron part of the Royal Marines) is better. This is simply because they are far more covert than the SAS, (have you ever heard of them?), they discourage publicity, they generally go in before or at the same time as the SAS yet they don't make it known to the general public. How many missions have you heard about that involved the SAS? Most of those involved the SBS too, they just prefer to keep their movements secret, as well the SAS should. The whole point of these special forces is that they are supposed to stay as covert as possible, it's no good announcing to the enemy what you've done, is it?

That doesn't mean that the SAS are bad or anything, just that they tend to court a little more publicity.

Edit: Oh, and you are usually specifically selected to be in the SBS, any squaddie can apply for the SAS.

an huge evaluation would both be the first particular Forces Operational Detachment-Delta (Delta rigidity for short) or the U. S. military SEALs. they are not that far behind the SAS. The SAS is the certain forces unit that each and each one others are depending upon. So the SAS are the unique and the most suitable and the Delta rigidity and the SEALs are not any more far behind.

no sas is not the best special forces units in the world; that would be the national security guards (nsg), an indian commando unit; theyre the most skilled and the most experienced when it comes to counter-terrorism, and were recognized for having the most rigorous training program in the world.

The Special Air Service Regiment and The Special Boat Squadron alongside other less high-profile Special Forces within all arms of the British Military are universally respected as the model for all covert operations systems throughout the world.
Having told you this, you realise what I have to do now, don't you?

The question is "best at what ?"
The SAS were raised for a specific task, and are still probably the best at it in the world. But as for the many other roles that come under the SF umbrella, who can say.

Yes. Absolutely no question about it yes. There are other elite units (Israeli and American come to mind), but man for man, unit for unit none can equal the SAS. One answerer noted that the US Navy Seals can get to any point on the globe faster than any other troops. That may be true, but still man for man the SAS can do more with less manpower and less technology than any other troops in the world today.

The selection procedure is very very tough and the failure rate is is around 6 in 10 so those who do pass would wipe the floor with any other special forces, the U.S. navy seals are very good at what they do but they are a pale imitation of the British special Boat Squadron.
