This is an excellent question.
As a religion, Jehovah's Witnesses try to maintain their purity from false religion and blatant paganisms. As individuals, however, the details are almost entirely left to individual Witnesses and family-heads to work out for themselves and their families.
Unfortunately, family heads are not perfect, and they may be inconsistent in applying what they know to be in the best interests of their children. For example, a conscientious parent might disallow donuts and sweets before noon, but allow his children to eat the most sugar-filled "cereal" known to man. Is this "wrong"? Or is it better described as "inconsistent"? In any event, Jehovah's Witnesses do not believe that anyone has the right to interfere in such matters of personal preference regarding child-rearing.
The bible encourages a true worshipper to honor and obey his parents, especially if he lives at home. It is easy to look around at others and note what seems to be "hypocrisy". Perhaps that particular imperfection is there, or perhaps humans are unable to read hearts, as God and Christ can.
(1 Samuel 16:7) Mere man sees what appears to the eyes; but as for Jehovah, he sees what the heart is.
(Ephesians 6:1-2) Children, be obedient to YOUR parents in union with [the] Lord, for this is righteous: “Honor your father and [your] mother”

First I would like to commend you for listening to your mother.
As a general rule there is NOTHING wrong with Anime's. Some do have a strange look about them, and I can understand why others might think they see a connection with "magic" and "spiritistic" things.
As you are aware God does not aprove of magic or spiritistic practices and anything that is known to have a direct link to such things should be avoided.
However in our modern day socoety there are many "grey areas" where personal conscience comes in to play and no one should enforce their personal consciencee on "grey areas" to others.
At the same time if we are aware that something is stumbling someone else our principled love for them should tell us to not offend others.
The same goes for the mnovies we watch. Our Bible trained conscience should dictate what is against Bible principles.
There are no rules for Jehovahs witnesses to follow in this regard. But there is the Bible principle of bad association spoiling good habits. Most JWs virw watching imoral or grossly violent films as bad association. They would view it the same way as having some one come into their homes and commiting that sort of act in front of them, they would not do it so why watch it on TV.
As a form of art Animes are not wrong, just as any other form of art is not wrong. A painting of 2 people sitting on an beautiful beach at sun down can be a pleasant piece of art to have. However put 2 people having sex in the same scene and the picture will be viewed in a different light by most.
So some Amine's could be seen as propmoting some form a spitisic practice... it is a matter of perception and conscience of each individual.
In the case of the particular omes you are tlking about it would seem that they represented a "false god" and if that is so then it could be in the relm of idolitry as well

Hi. I think I fit your bill for answerer characteristics as I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses and a fan of SOME anime.
First let me say that if your mom says no that means no. Frustrating as it can be, I remember, it is the way things are. If you were to decide to go watch these things behind your mom's back it will only cause problems. Good for you getting rid of the things she instructed you to.
I know that I have made decisions that other's viewed as improper, similarly there are things I feel are wrong that others do freely. We ALL must be responsible for our own actions.
As to the Anime you mentioned I don't know much about them. I think a good idea would be to mention why you feel these things are ok and review the Bible with your mom and the two of you can discuss these.
My brothers, former Witnesses, love tryin to nail me. If anything I say or do seems wrong they will make sure everyone knows it. While it is annoying when someone starts telling others, even family, that they feel you are doing something wrong it can be very frustrating. Hopefully the people who talked to your mom had best interests at heart.
Hope this helps.
PS Recently a potential (My term for people purporting to be Witnesses, that I only know online, as we never can know for sure someone's true feelings over the net) contacted me, complaining about a GIF I posted on my 360 page, she said I was promoting magic. She then sent me an article on the dangers of videogames, because she felt the GIF was an indication of my love of magic.(There is no, that I know of, mystical conection to the image)She then said that she felt that since I use drawings as avatars I prove a lack of love for Jehovah. I was SOOO annoyed till I realised that first, she has trouble communicating, and second, she was trying to be helpful.

Do you've any concept what Jehovah's Witnesses trust? did you know that purely some chosen from the earth will bypass to heaven? that the final public of mankind will live to tell the tale a paradise earth? at the same time as that is admirable that you're already wondering about your destiny as one in each of Jehovah's Witnesses, it truly is first crucial that you get a ordinary expertise and expertise of the Bible. once you've quite a few years to bypass before graduating from extreme college, then that is fairly conceivable that your vocational desires will replace many times by the years. that is regular of maximum childrens. Being impatient is likewise regular of youthful ones. positioned Jehovah first on your existence and each little thing else will fall softly into position.

Yo!!!! Its like this! You are either a full witness or not! Theres no half and half. There are alot of choices that depend on your concious and people can't chose that for you. And you are right about some people being hypocrites and being involved with bad entertainment ect. Now as for Anime! Some anime is good and some is bad, but the choice is mainly up to you and your relationship with Jehovah. As for me, I like some anime but I am chosey, I dont watch adventure of billy and mandy or even disney movies with magic because thats my choice. So think about it!
Best Wishes your friend,
Jonathan

I'm a Jehovah's Witness, I watch Death Note which has Shinigami..if you look up Shinigami..you will see that they arin't related to any relgious deity..so Death God really isin't correct.....they are works of fiction..So they are no diffrient than a werewolf..or a monster...or some creature you see on Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends.
Enma and Izanami are "Death Gods" and related to religion.

--ITS COMMENDABLE from what I read that you have cooperated with your mom, in her decisions to safeguard you!
--As a Jehovah's Witness with my wife for over 40 years, you are right, if they are indeed making judgements that are non of their business.
--I do not know what the animes in particular are, and how involved they are with demonism, but it is important to be careful, not necessarily of demonic attacks, but of what our attitude toward spiritism might be and develope into!
--As far as sexually explicit movies and severe violence, that indeed is something that can indeed have a great influence on us as persons, and what we might end up doing!
--If there was an immediate concern for you, and someone spoke up because they were concerned with your safety and maybe your developing appreaciation for the Bible, that is one thing.
--BUT if they are being smart alecks whether they be witnesses or not, that indeed is another thing.
--For the most part we try to follow the strong admonition of not being a major busybody, because of what company it is associated with:
(1 Peter 4:15-16) “15 However, let none of YOU suffer as a murderer or a thief or an evildoer or as a busybody in other people’s matters. 16 But if [he suffers] as a Christian, let him not feel shame, but let him keep on glorifying God in this name. . .”

I was into anime for a time... but I finally saw it for the dumb stuff it really is... and yes...there is some of it that is from evil... and your mother is correct in banning it... but as for the JWs... they are as misguided as any anime freak... do not be deceived by that cult... it will dull your mind just as bad as anime will... If a so-called JW is watching what you describe then they are not even close to being true JWs.... and that makes them even worse to be listening to... I can not think of anything more ludicris than a Hypocritical JW
