If it includes meat, brown the meat first. You may want to saute your onions first, too. Then, you should be ok.

Some people will say yes,,,,but I am sad to have to tell them this.....

But

NO!

One of the keys to good chili is letting it cook down and thicken....you cannot do this properly with a crock pot as they are designed to keep in the moisture.....and...if you try to cookl with the lid OFF...well they cannot get hot enough.

If you want to make REALLY GOOD Chili....well make it on the stove, or in a roaster oven with the vents open.

I like to make my chili the day before then chill overnight to let the flavors meld and then slowly reheat in the crock pot so it doesn't scorch or burn yummy

Sure, just don't add as much liquid as you would for a stove top recipe. Mighty good eating, and mighty easy.

Oh yes it makes it just as good, I would cook my meats first, then leave it on low, however if you are in a hurry then you can put it on high.
