where that all thing happened is pattaya, and pattaya is not the whole thailand.
u can be safe,if u go to the right place and don't try to involve with the forneiner mafia mob. that's it.
it's like everywhere in the world, dangerous and harrasment can happen everywhere, everytime.
if u go to the right place, contact with the right people,do the right thing,so your life's safe.
what thai think about those two russain girls?
some thai people think the 2 girls are prostitute (there are many russian prostututes in pattaya),and had tried to settle the business by their own. but the russian mafia can't let them did that. that's why the muder happened.
but some thai people think another thing (especially the police)

Officially, it was a robbery gone bad when the women started to yell. That is what the man confessed to. His girlfriend told the police who he was after it was released that it was taped and there may be an accomplice. He apparently had bragged to her. The police had traced the ladies travels prior to the murders and had been in the company of a caucasian male on a motorbike trip earlier in the week. Now, the police are claiming the man had 2 accomplices. And that there was a conspiracy. This was as of March 6th. It is supposed to be impossible to have a handgun in Thailand. So, there is some gang connection. Which gang, pick one. Russians, locals. At least they caught the shooter.

Just another happening in Thailand. There are much that do not get to the news, which the locals are aware of. So nothing really. Except to calm the Russian tourists.

This has been called a robbery gone bad and subsequent murder by local police. I do not buy that. I think its feuding Russian mobs fighting over prostitution profits. The cops have a suspect who has allegedly confessed.
It is still as safe here as in most any other country of the world.

you know - I do believe there is a definite increase in petty crime here as well as the violent one mentioned above, but not enough to stop or prevent tourism.. crime is a world wide phenomenom and will continue... I just hope it does not get worse..
as to what the locals think, I actually was in Pattaya at the time and the police were around showing pictures.. people were pretty curious -
