That depends on you - how hard are you willing to work? Also, how many people do you know that will buy from you? I started my own agency last year on May 1, and make a very good living already, but I know a lot of business owners. Also, I have over 23 years experience in the insurance industry. I do not sell a product based on what I make, I sell a product if it is the best thing for my client. I also treat my clients the way I want to be treated. Therefore, I get a ton of referrals, and write at least 50% of what I present. It is very hard work, and you need to have a "thick skin" if you go into this industry. We are trusted less than a used car salesman according to a survey I read recently. But, I truly love what I do, and know I have helped a lot of people save money, and get only what they need. You will probably be better off starting in an office, learning about it before you go off on your own. Good luck!

That would be, an independent agent.

Well, it depends on how hard you work the selling! The first few years, if you work 80 - 100 hour workweeks and pound the pavement, you could probably pull in $40,000 - $60,000. If you DON'T work your butt off, you'll probably go under. Hanging a sign up on your door is NOT going to bring the business in - it just doesn't work that way.

The problem is, getting the contracts for "every company". Obviously, not EVERY company is going to give you a contract. Many only write through their own captive agents, and others in your area limit how many agents they have in a 25 mile radius, so one isn't competing too much against oneself.

As a matter of fact, if you aren't an experienced agent, you're going to have a darned hard time getting ANY company, except maybe Progressive, to give you a contract.

An insurance agent can make as much money as he/she puts his/her mind to. I mean you make commission, so you determine your income. Plus, a new customer is born everyday!

If you are looking to be an independent agent for many companies, we need agents in your state. Let me know if you are looking fo r that and I will send you information.
