I work 3rd too. I eat a big meal, with protein before I go into work, or just after I get there. I drink lots of water too. I take snacks...an apple, melba toast, energy bar, carrot sticks, etc. I get hungry about 3 am and eat a lowfat peanut butter sandwich (or turkey). Try not to drink too much coffee or energy drinks.
If you have to get up a lot in the daytime (when you're supposed to be sleeping), have some grapes or a bowl of corn flakes to satisy the hunger cravings, but do not eat a full meal.

Your relation to 'breakfast' will depend on your body-clock. If you spend time eating during the day as if you were working a normal day-time shift. Then you would take your breakfast in the morning, normally before going to work etc. However, if you are permanently on the 3rd shift - which I take to be working at night - then if you take your breakfast in the evening before you go to work, as if you have just woken, then that would be the time to folow the instructions of the diet -"to eat a big breakfast".
Likewise, if you were going to use physical energy during the day - for example hiking, climbing etc, - you would normally eat a "big breakfast" to manufacture energy for the coming hours, until you have another meal.

Just reverse your menu...when you get up and begin your day, eat your breakfast meal......and eat a light "dinner" before going to bed...but eat at least an hour before you go to bed.

Think outside the box. "Breakfast" is a meal eaten when you get up...nothing says that has to be in the morning, does it?

Tailor the diet to your schedule.
