God also asked Cain where he was
And he asked Adam where he was
He was seeing if Satan would be truthful
Simple enough.

You raise an interesting question.
A good Lawyer will not ask a Wittness, a question that the LawyerDoesn"t know the answer to,and how the Wittness will respond What seems a casual question is more than that.Satan was telling God He has been walking all over the Earth,It was His because Adam gave It to him.In God"s Word this is one of only two places God speaks directley to Satan, In new testament ,Satan temps Jesus in the Desert.,The other times God starts speaking to an Earthely King or Man,But the msg:is clearley Addressing the Spirit Being Behind the visable Man
.Satan is the Prosecuting attorney,Jesus the Defense Att.God calls things that are to Happen as History.Ex. Jesus saw Satan cast out of Heaven. He is cast to Earth in Upcomming Tribulation,But on Earth He Has to have A Man"s Body.To Work thru,He travels in Disguise and is Loud, always ranting and raving. The last part of question,God speaks thru His Written Word, that is why it is so important to read it.

For the sake of clarification, God did ask Satan where he came from. It was to prove a point, that Satan is not in Hell, but actually walks this earth, restlessly.
God does communicate with us. But the thing is, if we saw the face of God, we'd die, according to the book of Exodus. So he speaks to us, but not face to face like he did Satan, because Satan is a spirit, as is God, but we're not spirits.

God did know, but he ask, to make sure satan spoke the truth. The difference between us and Satan, Don't forget, Satan, was once an angel of God. And he rebelled against God and was cast down and out of heaven. God does not talk to sinners. But don't get me wrong. God does not talk directly to us, but he allows others to do it for him. And to make sure you know God is talking to you, God will only answer it in a way, you know no one else can.

God dose communicate with us.
He speak to my heart, however sometime I don't listen
In Jobs God was speaking about Jobs to him. Pointing out how
much job loved God no matter what happen.
He allow Saten to put Job through the test. He could only do what God allowed him to do.
God spoke to Jobs. Jobs never blamed God for it.
Jobs past the test with flying colours.
God bless Jobs with more then before
