we have a cat, and what i did was put tin foil and doublesided tape in the crib and pack and play they hate the feeling of both of these things and it worked like a charm! i left it in there until the baby was born, and my cat jumped in there maybe twice, and never did it again! good luck to you and congrats!

Yes get a cat net, I have a 13 week old son and its a nightmare keeping my cat out of the cot/moses basket/car seat etc. They love sleeping in warm snuggly places. I need to get a cat net myself.
My cat has NEVER tried to snuggle/smother my son! In fact my cat couldn't care less about the baby and never even goes near him! The only interest Reggie (my mog) has is trying to get into the cot and moses basket (when its empty!). Thats an old wives tale about them "smothering" babies, don't beleive it!!
We also have two dogs who I'm struggling to care for as well as my son. I'm not sure what will happen but the younger one may have to be rehomed. They have not shown any aggression towards the baby but I just don't have time for them and the baby.

A cat net is an ideal way to keep the cats away from your baby, I used one with my son, and will use it again when my baby girl arrives in April. I bought mine in the "Babies R Us" line of Toys R Us.
It isn't a horror story, unfortunately, cats can lie with baby (not out of malice, but out of sheer love!!) they can snuggle too close and cover baby's nose and mouth and suffocate them. Also, cat hairs in the cot can be very dangerous for baby's delicate wind pipe.
I think it's great that people have children growing up with the opportunity to be close to animals - I always was, as I lived in the country and my son has grown up with my doves, dogs, cats, terrapins and horses!! I can't wait for my little girl to share the magic!
Good luck!

close the door dont let the cats in the bedroom, dont leave the baby alone in a room where the cats are
and yes if the cats lie next to the baby or on top of of course your baby could be suffocated
try the cat net that seems like a very good idea i am sure your cats wont pay to much attention to the baby and all will be fine good luck

The biggest threat to your baby from the cats is toxoplasmosis. Make sure you get screened for this if you haven't already. It used to be a routine test during pregnancy, but I don't think it is any longer. Check it out with your GP.
Even if your new baby doesn't suffocate, there is a chance he/she could be allergic to cat hair, not to mention fleas. Keep the moses basket and bedding well out of reach of the cats, both now and after the baby is born. Put them in the nursery/bedroom and close the door firmly so the cats can't get in the room at all.
Once your baby comes, you might well find that takes priority over your cats, and you may want to get them used to the idea of boundaries now. Cats can get jealous too, you know, so it's only fair to start them adapting to change at this stage.
Good luck!

Cats are very cuddly with babies things. It's NOT the baby that they need to suffocate, that's just an evil story. They are drawn to the smell of the milk and they are interested in the baby's squeaks and snuffling.
Cats I've had always like to cuddle up close to your face, and it's the same with babies.
You can get cat nets on EBAY, I've seen them advertised in baby stores online too.
They come for the moses basket, pram even the size you need to cover a travel cot/playpen.
Just keep your eyes peeled when baby comes, the cats aren't being nasty, just NOSEY!

Cats like to snuggle up somewhere warm and what could be softer and warner than a baby?
We have got 3 cats - they are not allowed in our babys room. We have got a cat net too you put it over the moses basket securely and taut. Our cats know they are not supposed to go near her and they don't.
