it is used for celular respiration, to make energy for the body. You inhale oxygen, it diffuses into your veins, were it is carried by oxyhemoglobin to parts of your body that need oxygen. There it defuses into your muscles or whatever. In the cells, it combines with other materials like glucose and water, and undergose a process, where it makes ATP, aka energy for your body:)

The air we breathe only contains a certain percentage of oxygen and we only use the oxigen portion of that air. So, breathing 100% oxygen allows a person to get better oxygen flow into their lungs. This help replenish the blood with oxygen faster.

It is also absorbed through the skin. I wonder if it somehow helps with the electric conductivity of our nervous system in conjunction to everything else it does.
