Don't worry they shouldn't fight. I have two female dogs" a sheltie and a mini schnauzer and they will wrestle and play sometimes, but they never fight. You should be fine getting either a male or female!

We had two female shepards for a very long time. One was 2 years older than the other. They didn't begin to fight until we got a male a year later. As long as there is no male for them to fight over, the older dog should have no problem with a female puppy.

You know your dog better than any of us here. Is she a aggressive dog? or is her domineer sweet? How is she around other dogs? Has she every growled and showed her teeth to other puppies???? Does the fur on the back of her neck go up when another dog approaches??? If you answered no to all of the above then you should have no problems with another female.
Bring in a male is a whole other ball game. Is your female fixed??? Are you wanting to breed these dogs? Males can impreganate a female by the time they are 5 months old. Males are going to be bigger than your female can you handle another big dog????
I'd go with another female. Introduce the new puppy outside with your female being allowed to sniff the new pup while it is in your lap. Let them get aquainted slowly and never leave them alone without you being there to supervise them both. After a few weeks then if you are sure hey will get along then you can start to see how they play together making sure the older female doesn't hurt the younger.

If your adult female is well socialize and patient with other dogs and you teach the puppy to respect the older dog you shouldn't have any problems. I have three females and two of them get along fine. Have them both spayed to cut down on the estrogen. Also watch out at about 18 months because that is when the young one is coming until maturity and she is going to want to find her place in the pack. Make sure you are known as the pack leader.

Ive got 9 female & 1 dog. I only have a problem with just 2 of them having the odd fight. But they are both rescues & I didn't get them young. The ones that I have had from pups get on great. They lick each others ears & play with toys with each other. I don't think you will have a problem at all.

Quick answer: If you have a female, get a male to reduce territorial fighting.
However, some notes:
A male gets mad at other males who intrude on their turf, not mad a females.
Females get mad at other females who intrude on their turf, not mad at males.
Again, neutering reduces those territorial urges.
Still want a girl puppy?
If the female dog you currently have has been neutured (been fixed) AND you plan on getting a female pup and neutering her too, then the two females can get along perfectly fine.

females only fight when they are trying to be the domanit pack member. i suggest u get a male because, well not saying 2 females would fight but i think they would exchange glances and maybe fight once or twice. i think u would be better off with a male because the female would get along with it more! ^.^

Weezles already rule. If your shepard has been socialized she should be fine. At 2yrs her maternal instincts will make her the pups best Friend. Dog fights are rare ,dogs growl and tusle as they are limited in their forms of expression. This phenomenon is exasperated by confused humans getting involved. In a "FIGHT" one dog is silent and one is screaming.
