Faith is the great cop-out, the great excuse to evade the need to think and evaluate evidence. Faith is belief in spite of, even perhaps because of, the lack of evidence.

I am an atheist.

I question if anyone needs to back up their faith. Faith is the will to believe without evidence. Some even say, despite the evidence to the contrary.

I think as long as people acknowledge what they have is faith, and not knowledge, I can accept that. However, if they start believing their faith is truth, I will require evidence to back that up.

Bottom line: All people should be allowed to believe anything they want. If they acknowlede it is just faith, I'm fine with that. However, if some people want to start claiming their beliefs are truth to me, they better show some evidence to support those beliefs to convince me.

--YOU DO NOT have the right definition of the Bibles faith! You are talking about credulity or BLIND FAITH of which the Bible does not teach or recommend. Blind faith is the churches idea, with teachings of hellfire, trinity etc.

DEFINITION OF THE BIBLES FAITH:

(Hebrews 11:1) “11 Faith is the assured expectation of things hoped for, the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld.”

--This is the same trust, belief or faith that scientists exercise, when they are about to discover something that they thought did not exist--like Pluto before it was discovered:

--How did they realize Pluto was there before they could see it?--Was it not by observing the affect that Plutos orbit have on the orbits of the other planets?---This is the same way people in the Bible equate God and his creation, teachings etc. When the Bible refers to scientific teachings it is very accurate---Note please:

--Moses 3000 years ago recommended what astronomers, scientists, zoologists, biologists etc.--had really started to learn to do accurately in our time:

(Job 12:7-9) “ 7 However, ask, please, the domestic animals, and they will instruct you; Also the winged creatures of the heavens, and they will tell you.  8 Or show your concern to the earth, and it will instruct you; And the fishes of the sea will declare it to you.  9 Who among all these does not well know That the hand of Jehovah itself has done this,”

--Note also references to scientific statements made by the Bible biographer Isaiah, some 2,500 years ago:

(Isaiah 40:22) “22 There is One who is dwelling above the circle of the earth, the dwellers in which are as grasshoppers, the One who is stretching out the heavens just as a fine gauze, who spreads them out like a tent in which to dwell,”

--Did you notice that Isaiah refers to the earth as a circle(this indeed was not the popular idea of the shape of the earth//Also note the reference to the milky way is spread like fine qauze!

--Then note also a reference to where the energy behind everything in the universe comes from:

(Isaiah 40:26) “26 “Raise YOUR eyes high up and see. Who has created these things? It is the One who is bringing forth the army of them even by number, all of whom he calls even by name. Due to the abundance of dynamic energy, he also being vigorous in power, not one [of them] is missing. . .”

--This is in reference to an equation which describes how energy produces matter and how matter converts into energy E=mc2!

--These are but a few of the references to science that the Bible makes very accurately, although it does not claim to be a science text book.

--Before you make such sweeping generalizaions of the Bible faith, and those who try to practice it, examine the evidence that you are suggesting does not exist--You might learn something! Please note just one little reference, to how fraudulent science can be just as bad as fraudulent religion:

*** g74 9/22 p. 18 Do I Have to Believe Evolution? ***

To the statement: “But the subject of evolution is so technical,” she protested.
“Theodosius Dobzhansky [an evolutionary scientist] says that much of the work of scientists is beyond the comprehension of average laymen, but that evolution is not. He says it’s a matter of elementary biology. And George Gaylord Simpson [another prominent evolutionist] contents that it’s immoral to have blind faith, whether in a religious doctrine or in a scientific theory. He also says that it’s man’s responsibility to test the findings of specialists and then decide, and that a person DOESN'T(my caps) have to be a research biologist to evaluate the evidence on evolution.”

That's a bunch of BULL that was made up by those who believe in the unbelievable!

I don't need to back up my faith in Pantheism, geniuses like Newton & Tesla have proven it!

One can not deny the Law of Reaction, or the fact that everything in the Universe is constructed of energy. Most just willfully choose to ignore the facts!

I can't back up my faith with anything concrete, no. It's my belief, though, and I'm entitled to it. I don't try to convert you or infringe on yours. I do approach most things scientifically, but not God. There are reasons for my faith, but nothing that would sway a jury.

How is evidence and fact going to help feelings of depression, love, or any other emotion. As you would have it, there can be no mystery to life.
Do I need evidence when I tell someone I love them?

The Bible backs my faith up.
But, if you mean Prove it to someone; I don't have to proof my faith to any man, only to God.

The Bible (KJV) is very provable and very hard to refute. I've yet to come across anyone who can even try without looking like a fool.

If you could back up your faith, it would cease to be faith.

My faith does not require me to "back it." My faith also doesn't require other people to believe that it's true. My faith requires ME to believe it, and that's it. Isn't that awsome?
