whatever you buy, try to make it something useful and not the usual rubbish silver ornament or framed photo. You can always buy something and add an engraved plaque to it; such as a garden bench.

Most people really cringe at the thought of all the silvery tack, especially since after 25 yrs their home is usually overflowing with household/fancy goods. Box of chocs with theatre vouchers, restaurant vouchers or vouchers towards a hobby they both enjoy. Also you can get a newspaper boxed of the day they were married which should bring back memories. If you are wanting to keep to a low budget you can get a silver wedding anniversary rose bush from your local garden centre or nursery.

When my sister and brother in law celebrated their silver anniversary a couple of years ago, their main gift was a pair of antique, boxed silver goblets I found on Ebay for about fifteen quid and then something else caught my eye.

My brother in law got an additional present of a silver winner's cup from the 1901 London Run (he's from north Kent) and on the card I wrote 'In recognition for knowing me for 27 years (I was 11 when we met) without being charged with murder.'

They were delighted with them both. They were unusual and - fortunately for me - didn't cost the Earth.

on my silver anniversary it seems almost no one gave silver to us-one tray I think. I wonder if they thought everyone else was giving silver so they did not. We only got one card with 25 on it. It's the only one I saved. The best gift was a 25th anniv. frame with 2 photo slots. In one they put my husband and I at our wedding. In the other they put us "now".

If you live in London, go to the Silver Vaults. We got our stuff from Langfords. They were a joy to visit, and the silverware is perfect (no we do not use it every day...). If you cannot find anything there, try to think of something NOT in silver! Cheers

Here's a website that has a lot of different types of gift on it. Maybe there's something there that you will like. It has chocolate, baskets, as well as silver gifts that can be engraved.
