In my studios in America, only black belts got the black trimmed dobok. In my studio here in Korea (as well as another one I trained at here), the adults get black trimmed doboks and the children get red/black trimmed doboks, no matter their belt.

In fact, I just checked my black belt test photos, and ALL of the children and ALL of the adults (over 200 children, but only 14 adults) are wearing such doboks. I don't know if that's a KTF thing or just the association of the city I train in, but if ALL of the people from ALL of the studios in the city do something, I'm guessing it's a regulation from on high. Or at least a strong suggestion.

It varies a lot amng associtions. In some schools, the trim matches the belt. We wear white uniforms without trim. It just depends on what the Grandmaster wants.

My tkd class doesn't make us wear that! We have the black robes with a red color, with all the belt colors. We can wear anycolor shirt underneath the robes. I'm not really sure why your martial arts class does that.♥
