In the beginning when I was asked to join by Yahoo, it was a great place for those seeking to find answers to very important questions. Even the atheists were learning why the spiritual folk believed they way they did. It was honest, and it was respectful. However, profane people with some kind of chip on their shoulder began to chime in with adolescent comments. Then others began posting extremely blasphemous or irreverent to others beliefs just for the fun of upsetting people of other faiths. Worse--several began cheating on the acquiring of "best answers" through cheating and prearrangement.
Now, the R&S section has become a mishmash where the more serious questions are ridiculed with smarta** and hurtful answers. Some of these people were extremely vulnerable and left worse off than when they came. Some seek prayer and got blasted for being weak. What a waste of the life given us.
In regard to the specifics of your question, no it was never "Christian" since many Jews, Hindus and Muslims were asking basic questions in the beginning. The scientific came in the form of proving the existence of God using logical means (which can be done). The political has its own subject heading. Take it there. Want to be funny? Go do standup. Only 1% of the so-called funny questions or answers were even remotely humerous. Most are disrespectful identification of those who lack hair in their nether regions.

A lot of people treat it as a Christianity section. Personally I think it shows quite admirable freedom of faith. All the regulars here show a level tolerance to other people's faiths, and don't report those who believe differently.
There are always a few crazies, but for the most part the discourse here tends to be mostly respectful.
It does get political sometimes, which annoys me. If I want to offend people with my politics I go to P&G, and I don't like the fact that some republican/democrat partisan hatred is seeping in here.
It can be very funny, especially because of the What Should I Do Retard. Anyone who reports him is an idiot.

It should be open to the exploration of the connections and relationship off all the things you mentioned, and more.
It should be open to questions about spirituality, a place where one can find opinions that encompass all belief systems.
It should be for all to use and explore, however I have seen yahoo censor certain questions about religions. Good ones!
Sometimes other's feel they have the right to assault any idea that is not incorporated into the belief system they currently choose to use.
Assuming the negative, without exploration of the idea, is a certain sign of a narrow mind

Religion and Sprirituality mean different things to different people even within the same faith. I feel we have a good mix here. I've seen a few other Asatruars, a lot of atheists and christians, plenty of pagans of varying traditions and many, many agnostics/searchers.
Most of us try to be respectful of other faiths even when we don't agree with the basic tenents of that faith, but at times things do get heated.
I also look forward to the WSIDR and his visits! I actually invented a drinking game based on those visits. My old housemates and I love it! I agree that anyone who reports him lacks one key ingredient that all gods, of any faith, tried to instill in their faithful - a sense of humor.

Its a religious war-zone, and it's always funny. Not enough people are willing to look at things from the other point of view.
