The Bible nowhere indicates that women are less equal in value. It only sets up an inequality in authority while on the earth. It is a mistake to make "equal in authority" and equal in value" as the same thing. President Bush may have immensely more authority than you or I but he has no more value before God than anyone on the face of the Earth. In Genesis God set up an authority structure placing man as the Authority over the woman. The scripture you refer to takes this a step further and says "as Christ is head over the church. The issue of authority is the controversy of the universe. Satin rebelled against Gods authority before creation. Satin led Adam and Eve into rebellion in the garden. Satan is still busy leading mankind in rebellion against Gods authority. There is no true authority except God and he has delegated parts of it to whomever he wills. If a person disagrees with what God has done then he believes that God has evil purposes. Whoever believes that God is good, believes that he only has good purposes, even though they may not understand them.

You would have to include the rest of the verse to support gender equality (Verses 5:24-33)

You need to read on to verse 26 "Husbands, continue loving your wives, just as the Christ also loved the congregation and delivered up himself for it"
Therefore if a husband is exercising his headship as Christ did, going so far as surrendering his life for them, then what a loving and safe environment it is to live in a houshold where a wife is in subjection to a husband like that.
