what shoes should i wear to the snow?

well im going to the mountains to see the snow. what shoes should i wear? will vans do? i dont have and boots so yeah.

city folks going into the mountains with no clue is bad enough. proper footwear is a must. there are things like frostbite and hypothermia to worry about. then there is the fact that snow melts and your feet get wet and uncomfortable. if all you are going to wear is your "vans" at the very least you should put plastic bags over your socks before you put the shoes on. you'll stay dry but i can't say how warm you'll be.
i live in the British Columbia rockies and have had to rescue many unprepared people that underestimate nature.
do us all a favor and beg or borrow or buy some proper clothing.

Boots is the only answer if you are going to be walking in the white stuff.
