I am considering a project to convert a Volkswagen T2 into a travel trailer, but I am having difficulty finding details on the weight of the bus, in either standard configuration or Westy conversion.

And not to pile too many questions in here, but I am also assuming the T2 weighed less than the Vanagon/T3. Is that correct?

when i pull up to the scales in my Vanagon, it says 4200. it's a tank. it's a GL with no camper stuff, but about 200 extra lbs in subaru motor and extra stuff.

i imagine the T2 is going to be lighter, exactly how much lighter i dont know, but you might be able to find out at www.thesamba.com
lots of info on older vdubs there.

if you post, please dont mention that you are going to cut it up, you might make someone cry.

First off, please dont do it! Youd be ruining a wonderful vehicle that there are few left of. People keep destroying them for things like this. Use something that isnt as reliable and wonderful (maybe an old Mitsu van-lightweight and not worth keeping in its original form).

Second, because of the wide variety of options and different manufacturers for most versions of the T2, youre going to have a hard time getting an accurate answer. Your best bet is to weigh whatever you can find.
